Job summary

Bickford & Associates, a litigation firm focused on insurance disputes, seeks an Associate Lawyer in Toronto, ON for a full-time, on-site role. You will handle varied litigation tasks, including research, pleadings, motions, and discovery, while coordinating with senior counsel and clients.

You will appear in court when required and contribute to trial preparation and strategy development in a collaborative, ethics-driven practice.

Qualifications

• Strong litigation skills, including legal research, drafting pleadings and motions, and preparing for hearings and trials.
• Experience or demonstrated interest in insurance law, civil litigation, or related practice areas.
• Excellent written and oral advocacy skills, with the ability to present arguments clearly and persuasively.
• Sound judgment, analytical thinking, and attention to detail in assessing evidence and legal issues.
• Licensed to practice law in Ontario and in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario.

Responsibilities

• Conduct legal research and draft pleadings, motions, and correspondence for insurance disputes.
• Manage files under supervision of senior counsel and prepare briefs and memoranda.
• Attend client meetings and participate in settlement discussions.
• Conduct examinations for discovery and assist in trial preparation.
• Appear in court and before tribunals as needed, collaborating with colleagues on case strategy.
