Job summary

Coeff Mining's Rainy River operation in Ontario seeks an Instrumentation & Control Technician to install, calibrate, maintain and troubleshoot instrumentation and process control systems across mine and processing facilities.

Reporting to the Electrical Supervisor, you will join a team responsible for instrument measurement, control systems, and automation to ensure safe, reliable operations. Requires DeltaV experience, strong troubleshooting skills, and a valid driver’s license.

Qualifications

  • Red Seal certification in instrumentation and control
  • Strong working knowledge of process instrumentation and control systems
  • Experience with DeltaV is required or strongly preferred
  • Experience with Endress+Hauser instrumentation is considered an asset
  • Ability to interpret P&IDs, loop drawings, electrical schematics, control narratives, and instrument datasheets
  • Ability to use electronic test equipment and calibration tools
  • Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills
  • Knowledge of SAP S/4HANA is an asset
  • Ability to work independently and with cross-functional teams
  • Valid driver’s license

Responsibilities

  • Perform installation, commissioning, calibration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of instrumentation and control equipment throughout the mining operation.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot DeltaV DCS hardware, I/O, control loops, alarms, trends, and field instrumentation.
  • Calibrate instruments such as transmitters, gas detectors, flow meters, temperature sensors, pH and DO analyzers.
  • Document calibration results per site procedures.
  • Troubleshoot 4–20 mA, HART, digital, and discrete instrumentation circuits.
  • Install, terminate, test, and troubleshoot instrument cabling, panels, and I/O systems.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot control valves and actuators including positioners and feedback systems.
  • Assist with commissioning and startup of new instrumentation and control systems.
  • Provide technical support to operations, maintenance, electrical, engineering, and automation teams.
  • Troubleshoot industrial communication systems (Ethernet/IP, Modbus, HART).
  • Identify recurring problems and recommend improvements for reliability.
  • Maintain maintenance records, calibration docs, equipment histories, and work orders.
  • Follow Ontario mining legislation, site standards, lockout/tagout procedures.

Rainy River

Situated in beautiful northwestern Ontario, 65 km northwest of Fort Frances, the Rainy River mine is an open pit and underground, gold and silver producing, residential mine site.

The Rainy River mine, located adjacent to the Ontario/Minnesota border is 65 kilometers northwest of Fort Frances, Ontario and is situated half way between Winnipeg, Manitoba and Thunder Bay, Ontario The area is home to more than 130 species of birds and large populations of moose, black bear and deer. About The Role

Position Reports To: Electrical Supervisor

Position Overview

The Instrumentation & Control Technician is responsible for the installation, calibration, maintenance, troubleshooting, and optimization of instrumentation and process control systems throughout the mine and processing facilities.

Working as part of the Electrical, Instrumentation & Automation team, the Instrumentation Technician will provide technical expertise in instrumentation, control systems, process measurement, and automation to support safe, reliable, and efficient mining and mineral processing operations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform installation, commissioning, calibration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of instrumentation and control equipment throughout the mining operation.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot DeltaV DCS hardware, I/O, control loops, alarms, trends, and associated field instrumentation.
  • Maintain, calibrate, and troubleshoot instruments, including; Pressure transmitters, gas detectors, flow meters, level transmitters, temperature transmitters and RTDs, pH, dissolved oxygen, and cyanide analyzers.
  • Perform instrument calibration using appropriate test equipment and document calibration results in accordance with site procedures.
  • Troubleshoot 4–20 mA, HART, digital, and discrete instrumentation circuits.
  • Install, terminate, test, and troubleshoot instrument cabling, junction boxes, marshalling panels, and I/O systems.
  • Troubleshoot and maintain control valves and actuators, including valve positioners and feedback systems.
  • Assist with the commissioning and startup of new instrumentation, control systems, and process equipment.
  • Provide technical support to operations, maintenance, electrical, engineering, and automation personnel.
  • Troubleshoot industrial communication systems and instrumentation networks, including Ethernet/IP, Modbus, HART, and other applicable communication protocols.
  • Identify recurring instrumentation and control problems and recommend improvements to increase equipment reliability.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records, calibration documentation, equipment histories, and work orders.
  • Follow all applicable Ontario mining legislation, site standards, electrical/instrumentation standards, safe work procedures, and lockout/tagout requirements.
Qualifications
  • Red Seal Instrumentation and Control Technician certification
  • Minimum 3 years of industrial instrumentation and control experience, preferably within mining, mineral processing, or heavy industrial environments.
  • Strong working knowledge of process instrumentation and control systems.
  • Experience with DeltaV is required or strongly preferred.
  • Experience with Endress+Hauser instrumentation is considered an asset.
  • Demonstrated ability to read and interpret: P&IDs, loop drawings, electrical schematics, control narratives, and instrument datasheets
  • Ability to safely use electronic test equipment, calibration equipment, process calibrators, and associated instrumentation tools.
  • Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills.
  • Experience with SAP S/4HANA considered an asset
  • Ability to work independently while also working effectively with operations, electrical, maintenance, engineering, and automation teams.
  • Valid driver's license.

The anticipated salary for this position will be between $118,000 to $128,000.
