JobTitle: Instrumentation Engineer (Long-Term Contractor – Design & Engineering Focus)

Location: Edmonton, Alberta, Canada

JobType: Long-Term Contractor (Monday to Thursday, 10-hour days)

JobDescription:

We are looking for a talented Instrumentation Engineer to focus on the design and engineering of instrumentation systems. In this long-term contractor role, you will be responsible for originating and checking instrumentation designs, ensuring they meet performance, safety, and regulatory standards. The role is based in Alberta, with a schedule of Monday to Thursday, 10-hour workdays.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Instrumentation Design & Engineering: Lead and review instrumentation designs, including detailed engineering calculations, sizing, and specifications for key components such as flowmeters, control valves, actuators, etc.
  2. System Integration & Design: Design and assess critical systems, including cable engineering, termination, grounding, and cabinet design to ensure seamless integration and compliance with operational requirements.
  3. Documentation & Drawings: Create, review, and maintain essential engineering documentation, including logic diagrams, cause and effect diagrams, and P&IDs (Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams).
  4. Safety & Compliance: Ensure systems comply with area classification, Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS), and safety control/protections systems, adhering to relevant safety standards.
  5. Technology & Equipment Selection: Select and integrate appropriate instrumentation technologies based on system requirements and applications.
  6. Collaboration: Work with multidisciplinary teams to ensure all instrumentation systems are integrated and optimized for safety and performance.
  7. Troubleshooting & Optimization: Perform engineering analysis to troubleshoot and resolve design or performance issues during the engineering phase.
  8. Industry Knowledge: Stay current with industry developments, including new technologies in instrumentation, analyzers, and fire & gas detection systems.

Desired Skills & Expertise:

  1. Instrumentation Design & Engineering: Strong expertise in performing design calculations, sizing, and integration of instrumentation systems, including flowmeters, control valves, and actuators.
  2. Instrumentation Technologies: Extensive experience with instrumentation technologies, including Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS), control valves, actuators, and PLC hardware.
  3. System Integration: Knowledge of cable engineering, termination, grounding, and cabinet design.
  4. Safety Systems & Area Classification: Familiarity with safety control systems, area classification, and safety protection systems.
  5. Analyzer & F&G Systems: Experience in designing analyzers and fire & gas (F&G) systems.
  6. Documentation: Ability to create and review complex engineering documents such as logic diagrams, P&IDs, and cause and effect diagrams.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Instrumentation Engineering or relevant education (NAIT/SAIT Instrumentation desirable)
  • Minimum 2-7 years of relevant experience in instrumentation design and engineering
  • In-depth knowledge of instrumentation systems, safety standards, and regulations
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills

Work Schedule & Location:

  • Work Schedule: Monday to Thursday, 10-hour days
