Job summary

Control Tech in Canada is seeking an Instrument Apprentice field technician to learn from Journeyman and peers, testing, calibrating, installing, repairing, and inspecting process control equipment.

You will read P&ID drawings, assist with installing instrumentation on field equipment, perform mechanical work on valves and pumps, calibrate instruments, maintain records, and participate in safety programs. On-call support and relocation options available.

Qualifications

• Read and understand P&ID drawings.
• Assists with installing process control and measurement instrumentation.
• Performs mechanical work associated with instrument repair and modification.
• Rebuilds control valves and tune controllers.
• Performs calibration and tests on instrumentation; maintains records.
• Uses test equipment to troubleshoot systems.
• Installs and repairs chemical pumps.
• Follows safety programs and company policies.

Responsibilities

• Lears to read and understand P&ID drawings.
• Assists with Installing process control and measurement instrumentation on existing and new field equipment and processes (transmitters, controllers, analyzers, control valves, etc.).
• Performs mechanical work associated with instrument repair and modification; removes and installs small piping and tubing.
• Rebuilds control valves and tune controllers.
• Performs preventative maintenance on instrumentation (calibration, replacement and tests as required); maintains field instrument records and standards.
• Uses pressure and/or electrical test equipment to troubleshoot systems.
• Installs and repairs chemical pumps.
• Participates/complies with company safety programs & company policies.
• Provides on-call support as required.
• Other duties as required.

Job Brief:

The Instrument Apprentice field technician will work with and learn from Instrument Journeyman and other apprentices. The Apprentice will be shown practical skills and learn to test, calibrate, install, repair, and inspect manufacturing equipment and monitoring devices.

Duties & Responsibilities:

• Learns to read and understand P&ID drawings.
• Assists with Installing process control and measurement instrumentation on existing and new field equipment and processes (transmitters, controllers, analyzers, control valves, etc.).
• Performs mechanical work associated with instrument repair and modification; removes and installs small piping and tubing.
• Rebuilds control valves and tune controllers.
• Performs preventative maintenance on instrumentation (calibration, replacement and tests as required); maintains field instrument records and standards.
• Uses pressure and/or electrical test equipment to troubleshoot systems.
• Installs and repairs chemical pumps.
• Participates/complies with company safety programs & company policies.
• Provides on-call support as required.
• Other duties as required.

Required Skills/Qualifications:

• Registered Apprentice, preferred.
• High School Diploma
• Standard First Aid/CPR with AED; H2S Alive, CSO, CSTS.
• Experience in oil and gas is an asset.
• Successful completion of a pre-employment drug and alcohol test (required for safety-sensitive roles).
• Completion of a criminal background check, with results assessed based on relevance to the position.
• Verification of a clean driving record, as defined by Control Tech’s standards (e.g., no major violations, no more than 3 infractions in the past 5 years).
