Responsibilities

• Deliver instruction in the Youth Explore Trades Sampler (YETS) program on Fridays, 8:30 am–3:25 pm, with some non-instructional days.
• Prepare and deliver lesson plans, course materials, and assessments aligned to program outcomes.
• Provide feedback, monitor student progress, and maintain attendance records.
• Oversee program safety during equipment operation and practical instruction.
• Complete administrative, record-keeping, and monitoring activities.
• Collaborate with colleagues and support cross-cultural and Indigenous engagement.

Coast Mountain College (CMTN), Terrace campus, invites applications for a non-regular term position to instruct in the Youth Explore Trades Sampler (YETS) program commencing September 3, 2026 and ending June 25, 2027. Salary will be in accordance with the BCGEU Instructor salary scale ($37.55 - $53.80 per hour).

Duties: The Trades Instructor is required to teach youth registered in the Youth Exploratory Trades Sampler (YETS) program in Gitwangak every Friday (with the exception of some non-instructional days) from 8.30 am to 3:25pm. This includes course preparation, teaching and guiding students, providing feedback, correction, encouragement, and direction. In addition, the instructor will oversee and ensure program safety during equipment operation and practical instruction, complete the related administrative, record keeping and monitoring activities, as well as other related duties as required.

Key components of the role may include, but are not limited to:

• Deliver instruction in the Youth Explore Trades Sampler (YETS) program, exposing youth learners to a variety of foundational trades including basic construction, welding, carpentry, plumbing, electrical, landscape horticulture and mechanical trades
• Mentor youth participants, fostering confidence, engagement, and a positive learning experience in a trades environment
• Oversee and enforce shop safety protocols and procedures in accordance with applicable regulations and CMTN policies
• Prepare and deliver lesson plans, course materials, and assessments aligned to program learning outcomes
• Evaluate and provide feedback on student progress, maintaining accurate records of attendance and performance
• Complete related administrative, record keeping, and monitoring activities as required

The trades include Carpentry, Plumbing, Electrical and Mechanical. Please indicate which trade you would be competent and comfortable teaching. Teaching is on Fridays; specific dates can be scheduled based on availability.

Qualifications

Qualifications/Skills: An Interprovincial Red Seal Endorsement for the chosen trade and Grade 12 or equivalent are required. Experience should include a minimum of 5 years of varied field experience as a Journeyperson and 5 years in a supervisory capacity. A Provincial Instructor's Diploma or other relevant teaching certification and experience are preferred. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

• Demonstrated expertise in curriculum development, instructional design, and adult learning principles
• Proven experience developing engaging, evidence-based training materials for workplace or Red Seal Endorsement
• Demonstrated knowledge and ability to instruct a variety of trades, including basic construction, welding, and other foundational trades
• Demonstrated ability to mentor youth and foster a supportive, engaging learning environment
• Valid Class 5 Driver's Licence
• Demonstrated enthusiasm and commitment to excellence in teaching with the ability to inspire and mentor learners of all ages
• Knowledge and passion for the best practices in equity, diversity, and inclusion in the classroom
• Effective cross-cultural communication skills, particularly with Indigenous communities
• Demonstrated ability to work efficiently and accurately in a collaborative team environment
• Excellent organizational, communication, and facilitation skills
