Job summary

CPKC in Winnipeg, MB is seeking a Training Specialist to design, deliver, and support high‑quality programs that ensure Operations staff are proficient in PSR processes. You will coordinate curricula, manage schedules, and assess trainee performance across locations.

The role requires a strong background in adult education, LMS usage, and safety culture, with readiness to travel to remote terminals as needed. This is a full-time, non-union position.

Qualifications

  • High School Graduation or GED completed.
  • 5 years of railroad operations experience, with T&E preferred.
  • Active Conductor certification; Locomotive Engineer preferred.
  • Excellent safety record and knowledge of collective agreements.
  • Familiarity with Adult Education Principles and Instructional Design.
  • Knowledge of LMS systems and training administration.
  • Valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

  • Schedule, deliver, and support training aligned with business targets for Operations.
  • Coordinate and manage courses, programs, and examinations; update content per policy changes.
  • Assist in developing structured training plans and deliver per curriculum guidelines.
  • Enter training records into LMS for Train and Engine and address issues proactively.
  • Provide ongoing support to client groups, field managers, and new hires.
  • Evaluate on-the-job trainee performance and maintain confidentiality of results.
  • Be prepared to deploy to various locations to support operations as needed.
  • Deliver training sessions at remote terminals to ensure consistency.

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

Apply technical training expertise to design, deliver, and support high‑quality training programs that align with organizational performance targets and business strategies. This role is critical in ensuring Operations employees are equipped with the knowledge, skills, and competency required to execute Precision Scheduled Railroading (PSR) safely, efficiently, and consistently across all locations.

POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES
  • Schedule, deliver, and support training sessions aligning overall business strategies and performance targets for the Operations department
  • Coordinate and manage courses, programs, and examinations, revising content as necessary to adhere to policy or procedure changes
  • Assist in the development of structured training plans and deliver courses according to established curriculum guidelines
  • Accurately enter training records into the Learning Management System (LMS) for Train and Engine (T&E) and proactively address any emerging training issues
  • Provide continuous support to client groups, field managers, and new hires, ensuring they receive the necessary training and resources
  • Evaluate on-the-job performance of trainees, maintaining confidentiality of classes and employee results
  • Be prepared to deploy to various locations to support operations as needed
  • Deliver training sessions at remote terminals to ensure all employees receive consistent and comprehensive training
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
  • High School Graduation or General Equivalency
  • 5 years of experience in a railroad operations role with a preference for extensive experience in T&E, with the capability to train various client groups
  • Active Conductor certification with a preference for Locomotive Engineer qualification
  • Outstanding safety record as an operational employee
  • Understanding of collective agreement issues related to training
  • Knowledge of Adult Education Principles and Instructional Design
  • In-depth knowledge of the technical subjects being taught; familiarity with (LMS)
  • Experience in applying business knowledge to the area of accountability
  • Strong facilitation, interpersonal skills, presentation, and leadership skills, especially when working with client groups and unions
  • Valid driver’s license

PRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS
Medical and Drug Testing

This is a safety critical position and a successful pre‑employment medical assessment including physical, vision, hearing, and a negative company drug test is required. Post hire qualification drug testing may also be required.

Management Conductor Program

Becoming a qualified conductor or locomotive engineer is the single best way for a management employee to learn the business at CPKC. You may be required to obtain a certification or to maintain your current certification/qualification as a conductor or locomotive engineer.
