Selkirk International is seeking relief instructors for the School of Academic Upgrading and Development at Castlegar, Silver King (Nelson), and Trail. You will teach in programs including SOAR, Steps to Opportunities, and Accessible Education & Training, focusing on job readiness, self-awareness, and sector-specific workplace skills.

Candidates should hold a Bachelor’s degree relevant to Accessible Education and Training, a Teaching Certificate or Provincial Instructor Diploma, and at least

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree relevant to Accessible Education and Training or an alternate Bachelor's degree with certification for supporting adults with diverse abilities.
  • Teaching Certificate or Provincial Instructor Diploma preferred.
  • Five years’ experience working with adults with diverse abilities in a learning setting, including lesson planning, student evaluation and behavioural support.
  • Two years’ experience in the food service and/or hospitality field.
  • Experience supporting individuals and groups with special needs in the community.
  • Experience supporting individuals and groups with special needs in the community
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered

Responsibilities

Job description

Relief instructors are required for the School of Academic Upgrading and Development at each of the following three campuses: Castlegar, Silver King (Nelson), and Trail.

Main Duties and Responsibilities
  • Teaching in the SOAR, Steps to Opportunities, Academics, and Readiness (Accessible Education & Training) program in Job Readiness, Self-Awareness, Interdependence, as well as sector specific workplace skills for Food Service, Entrepreneurship, Agriculture and Sustainability, Applied Arts, Retail, Leadership
  • Support student learning workplace readiness, life skills, study skills, self-awareness and teamwork
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
  • A learner-centered teaching philosophy and aptitude for engaging students at all levels of the SOAR program
  • Ability to teach across the Accessible Education and Training curriculum
  • Ability to teach in various instructional modes, including integrating Moodle, Zoom, synchronous and asynchronous delivery, video lecture capture and editing, and file sharing with OneDrive
  • Excellent communication, teamwork and time management skills in a remote and in-person environment
  • Adaptability and willingness to work flexible hours
  • Ability to instruct practical skills in food service and operations
  • Ability to efficiently use OneDrive, Outlook, Zoom and Moodle
  • Knowledge of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada’s Calls to Action
  • Adaptability and willingness to work flexible hours
Education and Experience
  • A Bachelor’s degree relevant to Accessible Education and Training or an alternate Bachelor's degree plus equivalent certification for supporting adults with diverse abilities
  • Teaching Certificate or Provincial Instructor Diploma preferred
  • Five years’ experience working with adults with diverse abilities in a learning setting, including lesson planning, student evaluation and behavioural support
  • A minimum of two years’ experience working in the food service and/or hospitality field
  • Experience supporting individuals and groups with special needs in the community

*An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered

This is a relief position (0%), commencing October 12, 2026, and ending July 31, 2027. Salary and Benefits are in accordance with the BCGEU Collective Agreement. The salary range is $46.05 - $73.80 per hour based on qualifications and experience.
