Qualifications

  • Experience in working and teaching in cross-cultural environments.
  • Membership with a provincial/territorial Social Work Association/College.
  • Eligibility for membership of the Association of Social Worker in Northern Canada (ASWNC).
  • Vulnerable sector criminal record check required.

Salary range: $117,669.00 to $133,533.00 per year, 37.5 hours/week

Northern Allowance: $16,328.00 per year / $21,309.00 per year

Housing: Subsidized Staff Housing is Available

Reporting to the Manager, Social Work Programs, the Instructor, Social Services Worker Program is responsible for delivering high-quality post-secondary education that prepares adult learners for careers in the social services field. The position develops, delivers, and evaluates classroom and practicum-based learning experiences that equip students with the knowledge, skills, and professional competencies required to work effectively in Nunavut communities.

Working closely with government departments, community organizations, and practicum partners across the territory, the Instructor ensures program content reflects current social work practices, northern realities, and Inuit societal values. Through instruction, mentorship, and student support, the position contributes to the development of competent, culturally responsive social service professionals who help strengthen the wellbeing of individuals, families, and communities throughout Nunavut.

Responsibilities

The key responsibilities of this position are:

Qualifications

The knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this position are typically acquired through:

Completion of a Master’s degree in social work with three (3) years recent work experience as a Social Worker, or, the completion of a Bachelor’s in Social Work with five (5) years recent work experience as a Social Worker.

One (1) year of classroom teaching, preferably at a post-secondary level or clinical/practicum supervisor of students.

Experience in working and teaching in cross-cultural environments.

Membership with a provincial/territorial Social Work Association/College.

Eligiblility for membership of the Association of Social Worker in Northern Canada (ASWNC).

This position is highly sensitive and will require a vulnerable sector criminal record check.

The Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktut , English and French. Applicants may submit their resume in any of the official languages of Nunavut. Fluency in more than one of Nunavut’s official languages would be considered an asset. Knowledge of Inuit communities, culture, land, Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit , Inuktut and experience working in a northern cross-cultural environment are also considered assets.
