Langara College's Department of Recreation Studies is seeking an instructor for the Indigenous Leadership in Recreation micro-credential to teach three 1-credit Spring 2027 courses. Experience with adult learners and Indigenous communities is essential.

The role emphasizes online and in-community delivery, collaboration with Nations in BC, and a focus on building a positive learning community. A Master’s degree is required; PhD preferred, with strong field experience.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Leisure Studies, Recreation, Leadership, Adult Education, Public Administration or related field.
  • Minimum 5 years in Indigenous Recreation or Community Recreation (full-time or equivalent).
  • Experience teaching Indigenous learners at the post-secondary level preferred.
  • Experience with community-based/participatory methodologies.
  • Willingness to reside in British Columbia and engage with Nations in BC.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and deliver lecture material; design activities; grade assignments and exams.
  • Liaise with Nations/communities to organize class needs.
  • Utilize digital technologies (Brightspace, Zoom) to deliver course material.
  • Maintain weekly office hours on campus and online for student advising.
  • Contribute to program design and departmental activities.

Land-based experiences and knowledge are considered an asset.
