Job summary

PCL Constructors Inc. in Edmonton is seeking an experienced Instructional Designer to develop enterprise-wide learning solutions. You will analyze needs, design, develop, implement, and evaluate courses from entry-level to intermediate levels, using adult-learning principles.

You will collaborate with SMEs, lead projects, manage timelines, and deliver online and instructor-led training with a focus on measurable impact and strong customer-focused relationships.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor's degree in a related discipline preferred.
  • 5 years of progressive experience with training delivery and/or facilitation in a corporate environment preferred.
  • Experience using instructional design approaches and learner-centric design to develop courses.
  • Ability to deliver effective learning to diverse participants and stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Completes analysis, design, development, implementation, evaluation, and maintenance of courses from entry to intermediate level.
  • Applies adult learning methodologies for online and instructor-led training.
  • Acts as project lead for initiatives and manages tasks and deadlines.
  • Works with SMEs to design and develop curricula.
  • Assesses course effectiveness and learner needs, adjusting strategies as needed.
  • Researches best practices and industry trends to inform programs.
  • Uses rapid authoring tools to strengthen courses and programs.
  • Provides company-wide learning and development support and consultation.
  • Prepares course materials and coordinates pre-/post-course work.
  • Develops strong, customer-focused relationships with stakeholders.

Here’s how an Instructional Designer for PCL Constructors Inc. within Edmonton NAHQ contributes to our team:

  • Completes the analysis, design, development, implementation, evaluation, and maintenance of entry-level to intermediate behavioral and technical courses or programs.
  • Applies adult learning methodologies to deliver online and instructor-led courses or programs.
  • Acts as project lead for assigned initiatives and programs and applies the principles of project and time management to track tasks/deadlines.
  • Works with subject matter experts (SMEs) to design and develop curricula.
  • Assesses and monitors the effectiveness of courses and the needs of the learners and modifies instructional strategies, improving effectiveness as needed.
  • Researches and applies best practices and industry trends.
  • Uses rapid authoring tools to develop e-learning and strengthen instructor-led courses or programs.
  • Provides company-wide support and consultation services on all matters related to learning and development initiatives at PCL.
  • Manages the preparation of course materials, including pre- and post-course work.
  • Develops and maintains strong, customer-focused relationships with all interest holders.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required. Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline preferred.
  • 5 years of progressive experience with training delivery and/or facilitation in a corporate environment preferred.
  • Experienced in using various instructional design approaches, instruction methodologies, and learner-centric design and learning solutions to design and implement new courses or program. Demonstrated experience in the application of adult learning theory and practices.
  • Ability to deliver effective learning (instructor-led or online) to a diverse group of participants with varying knowledge, experience, and backgrounds.
  • Effective relationship building, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to research and analyze information, staying current with industry advancements and knowledge.
  • Strong organizational skills, a high level of detail orientation, and ability to multitask and prioritize conflicting deadlines to effectively manage demands and projects.
  • Knowledge of organizational change-management methodologies is an asset; as is intermediate-level business acumen.
