Job summary

Savaria is seeking an Installation Technician to perform on-site installations, commissioning, and preventive maintenance of Handicare products in health care facilities across the Edmonton area. This entry to mid-level role involves reading blueprints, coordinating with project managers, and adhering to Handicare standards.

The position requires ability to travel up to 75%, valid driver's license, and comfort with construction tools.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED and 3–5 years of related experience and/or training; preferably in building construction, mechanical, electrical and plumbing methods.
  • Journeyman Certification in BC Building Trades would be an asset.
  • Experience in carpentry would also be an asset.
  • Knowledge and experience in construction, building and hardware installations, electro-mechanical systems and devices.

OVERVIEW:

The Installation Technician will be primarily involved with the installation, service, and preventative maintenance of Handicare products in all kinds of health care facilities throughout British Columbia. This is an entry to experienced level construction position, no experience required but preferred.

Edmonton Area, Alberta

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Responsible for on-site installations, commissioning, and coordination of Handicare products in their entirety.
  • Arrange site storage for products and materials as needed for installation projects.
  • Coordinate installations with customer and project manager.
  • Construction related activities including but limited to reading blueprints, layouts, measuring, cut, drill, assemble and install all lift system components according to Handicare standards.
  • Perform load tests on the installed track and test operation of lift equipment.
  • Coordinate with the supervisor to advise of daily site progress and work through any issues encountered.
  • Maintain the company vehicle in good operating condition and cleanliness.
  • Daily Travel to different jobsite in accordance with schedule.
  • Accurate and regular expense reporting.
  • Additional responsibilities as requested by supervisor.
COMPETENCIES:
  • Basic Knowledge and experience in construction, building, hardware, and installations is preferred.
  • Competency with various construction tools needed to complete a successful installation (hammer drill, chop saw, band saw, hand tools, tape measure, line lasers, etc.) is preferred.
  • Ability to work on ladders, scaffolding, and scissors lifts for extended periods of time.
  • Mechanical aptitude and the ability to assemble hardware & components.
  • Able to read and interpret written information, construction drawings and room layouts.
  • Able to travel up to 75%.
  • Valid Driver’s License with minimal infractions.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instruction, short correspondence and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one on one and small group situation to customers, clients and other employees of the organization.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & TRAINING:
  • High School Diploma or general education degree (GED); and 3 to 5 years of related experience and or training; preferably in building construction, mechanical, electrical and plumbing methods.
  • Journeyman Certification in BC Building Trades would be an asset
  • Experience in carpentry would also be an asset
  • Knowledge and experience in construction, building and hardware installations, electro-mechanical systems and devices
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and room layouts
  • Mechanical aptitude and the ability to assemble hardware & components
  • Previous leadership/supervisory experience
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES OR REGISTRATIONS:
  • Must have current Driver’s License
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
  • The employee may occasionally stand, walk, stoop, kneel or crouch during shift. Employee will be required to regularly sit, use hand to finger, handle, feel and reach with hands and arms. Employee must be able to occasionally lift, push, pull and or move up to 50 lbs.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
  • This position works in an environment with loud noise levels. This position may frequently work near moving parts, be exposed to vibration and be exposed to airborne particles & dust. This position will occasionally work in high, precarious places and be exposed to the risk of electrical shock.
TRAVEL:
  • This position travels up to 75% or more of the time.
