Job summary

Alberta Gaming, Liquor & Cannabis (AGLC) is seeking a proactive Inspector to join the Grande Prairie Regulatory Services team. You will inspect licensed liquor and cannabis facilities, investigate non-compliance, and contribute to enforcing the Gaming, Liquor & Cannabis Act and AGLC policies.

This permanent full-time position requires a post-secondary diploma in law enforcement or related field, plus 2 years' regulatory experience and strong communication skills; a valid driver’s license is

Qualifications

• Post-secondary diploma in law enforcement/security/justice/investigations or related diploma.
• 2 years’ experience in inspection, investigation, or regulatory compliance.
• Proficiency with computer applications and systems to prepare reports and manage case files.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively and collaboratively with colleagues, leadership, stakeholders and the public.
• Strong communication, judgement and critical thinking abilities for investigations and conflict resolution.
• Ability to work flexible hours, including late evenings, weekends, and occasional overnight travel.
• Possession of a valid, non‑graduated driver’s license and access to reliable transportation.

Responsibilities

• Investigate complaints and non-compliance issues, prepare reports and provide evidence at Board Hearings.
• Educate and train licensees and registrants on compliance practices and policies.
• Respond to inquiries from the public, licensees, government departments and regulatory agencies.
• Ensure all licensees and registrants comply with legislative and policy guidelines.

JOB SUMMARY

Do you thrive in social settings and have a keen eye for detail? If so, this opportunity could be the perfect fit for you! AGLC is looking for a proactive, enthusiastic, and professional Inspector to join our dynamic Regulatory Services Division in Grande Prairie.

As an AGLC Inspector, you will play a vital role in ensuring the integrity of licensed liquor and cannabis establishments. This includes conducting inspections and investigations to ensure compliance with the Gaming, Liquor & Cannabis Act, Gaming, Liquor & Cannabis Regulation, Part VII of the Criminal Code, and AGLC policies. You’ll monitor the responsible sale and service of alcohol and cannabis, verify patron ID for those appearing under 25 years old, and ensure compliance with industry regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

• Conduct inspections and regulatory investigations of liquor/cannabis facilities during all operating hours.
• Investigate complaints and non-compliance issues, prepare detailed reports and provide evidence at all Board Hearings.
• Educate and train licensees and registrants regarding compliance practices and regulatory policies.
• Respond to inquiries from the public, licensees, government departments, and regulatory agencies.
• Ensure all licensees and registrants are in compliance with legislative and policy guidelines.

SKILLS & ABILITIES

• Minimum of a post-secondary diploma in law enforcement/security/justice/investigations or related diploma.
• 2 years’ experience in inspection, investigation, other regulatory compliance.
  • Equivalencies such as significant experience in a licensed premises or gaming facility may be considered. Management experience would be preferred.
• Proficiency with computer applications and systems to prepare reports and manage case files and manage documentation.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively and collaboratively with colleagues, leadership, industry stakeholders and members of the public.
• Strong communication, judgement, and critical thinking abilities with the capacity to conduct thorough investigations and resolve conflicts constructively.
• Ability to work flexible hours, including late evenings, weekends, and occasional overnight travel.
• Possession of a valid, non‑graduated driver’s license and access to reliable transportation.
• Assets include:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice.
  • General knowledge of the Criminal Code, the Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis Act, the Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis Regulation, and Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis Commission (AGLC) policies and procedures.
  • Basic knowledge of accounting and case management systems.
