Company: Peerless Electric Co. Ltd.
Location: Cornwall, Ontario
Compensation: CAD $60,000–$80,000 annually, depending on experience and technical knowledge.
Position Summary
The Inside Sales Manager supports Peerless Electric’s sales activities through independent sales agents and customers. The role handles project inquiries, prepares and follows up on quotations, assists with lighting product selection, and coordinates with internal teams to move opportunities efficiently toward order placement.
The position combines customer service, technical quotation work, and sales follow-up. It is primarily an inside-sales role rather than a territory-based outside-sales position.
Primary Responsibilities
Agent & Customer Support
- Maintain responsive, professional communication with sales agents and customers regarding products, project requirements, quotations, pricing inquiries, and order-related questions.
- Clarify the information needed to quote a project, including specifications, drawings, luminaire schedules, quantities, configuration options, bid deadlines, and requested delivery timing.
- Help identify suitable standard products and possible alternatives; refer non-standard technical questions to Engineering or other responsible departments.
Quotations, Pricing & Product Selection
- Prepare accurate, timely quotations and revisions for standard and custom lighting products using approved pricing methods and company procedures.
- Review project specifications, drawings, product codes, materials, and job-costing information; identify missing details or inconsistencies before issuing a quotation.
- Coordinate custom configurations, technical feasibility, material availability, costs, and lead times with Engineering, Production, Purchasing, QA, and Shipping as appropriate.
- Escalate special pricing, unusual commercial terms, unconfirmed lead times, and design exceptions for approval rather than making unauthorized commitments.
Quotation Follow-Up & Order Handover
- Follow up with agents and customers on outstanding quotations, bid status, questions, revisions, and project decisions; record outcomes and agreed next steps.
- Support the transition from accepted quotation to order placement, ensuring that approved product configurations, pricing, quantities, and special requirements are documented clearly for the appropriate order-processing team.
- Provide timely updates to agents and customers using information confirmed by the responsible internal departments.
Sales Records & Continuous Improvement
- Maintain complete, accurate quotation and opportunity records in company systems, including OASIS where applicable, with relevant bid dates, revisions, markets/currencies, follow-up status, and order outcomes.
- Help keep quotation information organized and available for sales activity reporting and operational follow-up.
- Share recurring customer feedback, quotation issues, and product requests with Engineering and Production to support practical improvements.
Qualifications
- Experience in inside sales, technical quotations, estimating, or customer/agent relations; lighting, electrical products, manufacturing, or construction experience is preferred.
- Ability to interpret product specifications, project drawings, quotation requirements, and costing information, with strong numerical accuracy and attention to detail.
- Strong written and verbal communication, customer-service judgment, follow-up discipline, and ability to manage competing deadlines.
- Comfortable with Microsoft Office and business quotation/order systems; prior OASIS or other relevant ERP/quotation software experience is an asset.
- Practical lighting product and application knowledge, or the ability to develop it quickly through training. English communication skills required; English/French bilingualism is an asset.
Role Scope & Expected Results
The role is measured through quotation quality and timeliness, effective follow-up, accurate records, strong service to agents and customers, and reliable coordination through order handover. Specific performance targets and reporting arrangements will be established by management.
Regular field prospecting, territory management, and routine customer travel are not core responsibilities. Any occasional customer or agent meetings would be arranged according to business needs and management approval.
