Job summary

Lactalis Canada is seeking a Project Manager to lead CAPEX projects in our manufacturing facilities. You will plan, design, execute, and complete initiatives on schedule and within budget, coordinating with Production, Maintenance, and Procurement teams.

You will apply engineering principles, conduct cost-benefit analyses, and ensure compliance with standards and regulations while promoting safety, quality, and continuous improvement. Hybrid work is available in Canada.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Mechanical preferred.
  • 5+ years of engineering experience in a world-class organization.
  • Experience with manufacturing processes and systems (CIP, pasteurization, sterilization).
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Financial and budget management experience.

Responsibilities

Job Purpose

The Project Manager is responsible for the planning, design, execution, and completion of projects within strict timelines, while ensuring budget compliance and delivering technically sound solutions within our manufacturing facilities. This role requires a strong foundation in engineering principles, excellent project management skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams to achieve project objectives.

Critical Success Factors

  • Project Planning and Coordination:
    • Lead CAPEX development project plans (ranging from small and medium-sized to large-scale projects), schedules, and budgets.
    • Coordinate resources and ensure project milestones and deadlines are met.
    • Define project scope, objectives, and deliverables that support business goals in collaboration with management and stakeholders.
    • Communicate project expectations and status to team members and stakeholders in a timely and clear manner.
    • Proactively manage changes in project scope, identify potential issues, and develop contingency plans.
  • Technical Design and Analysis:
    • Apply technical expertise to conceptualize, design, and evaluate manufacturing processes, equipment, and systems.
    • Conduct feasibility studies and cost-benefit analyses to support decision-making.
    • Ensure that all work performed by or on behalf of the company complies with project management procedures, as well as all applicable standards, codes, regulations, and best practices.
  • Technical Documentation:
    • Prepare comprehensive technical documentation, including specifications, drawings, and technical reports.
    • Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Identify potential risks and challenges related to project execution.
  • Develop mitigation strategies and contingency plans to minimize disruptions and ensure successful project delivery.
  • Work closely with other departments, including Production, Maintenance, and Procurement, to facilitate cross-functional collaboration and alignment.
  • Communicate project updates and provide technical support as needed.
  • Promote excellence across all activities and functional groups to support safe operations, product quality, reliability, increased productivity, waste reduction, and cost optimization.
  • Coaching and Development:
    • Coach, mentor, motivate, and supervise project team members and contractors, fostering accountability, engagement, and high performance in assigned responsibilities.
  • Collaborate with external suppliers and service providers to source materials, equipment, and services required for project implementation.
  • Evaluate vendor proposals and negotiate contracts to ensure the best value for the organization.
  • Work with municipalities to obtain permits and approvals when applicable.
  • Quality Assurance:
    • Establish quality control measures to ensure compliance with product standards and specifications.
    • Conduct inspections and audits to verify adherence to quality requirements throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance manufacturing efficiency, productivity, and safety.
  • Identify opportunities for innovation and optimization to achieve cost savings and competitive advantage.
  • Maintain awareness of emerging technologies that can improve efficiency, reduce costs, enhance workplace safety, and strengthen product quality.
  • Other Duties as Required:
    • Perform additional responsibilities and projects as assigned to support business needs.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical Engineering preferred)
  • Five or more years of engineering experience within a world-class organization
  • Experience with manufacturing processes and systems such as CIP (Clean-in-Place) systems, pasteurization systems, and sterilization equipment
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
  • Financial and budget management expertise
  • Knowledge of the food manufacturing industry, maintenance instrumentation, and PLC and SCADA control systems
  • Strong communication, listening, and presentation skills
  • Ability to adapt to evolving cultures and work environments
  • Bilingualism (French and English) is required.
