Job summary

Hitachi Energy Canada Inc. in Saint-Laurent, Quebec, is seeking a Principal Project Engineer to lead HV/MV substation engineering across proposals, design, construction and commissioning.

You will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver technically sound solutions and support project execution. The role requires 8+ years in HV/MV substations, fluency in English/French, and willingness to travel up to 30% domestically and internationally.

Qualifications

• Must have work authorization to work for Hitachi Energy in Canada.
• Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering.
• P.Eng. designation in Canada.
• Minimum of 8 years of HV/MV substation engineering experience.
• EPC project experience is considered an asset.
• Strong knowledge of HV substation equipment and design calculations.
• Experience developing single-line diagrams, grounding systems, and substation layouts.
• Proficiency in English and French, spoken and written.
• Ability to travel up to 30% domestically and internationally.

Responsibilities

• Lead engineering activities during proposal, design, construction and commissioning phases of HV/MV substation projects.
• Develop system designs including single-line diagrams, layouts, grounding systems, and bills of materials.
• Coordinate multidisciplinary engineering activities to support successful project execution.
• Review and validate subcontractor proposals to ensure technical accuracy and alignment with project requirements.
• Assess project risks and opportunities and recommend solutions that improve safety, quality, and cost performance.
• Support site, installation, and commissioning teams by resolving engineering and technical issues.
• Evaluate existing equipment and infrastructure for modernization and brownfield project requirements.
• Perform technical and constructability reviews to ensure designs meet project objectives and customer expectations.
• Responsible to ensure compliance with applicable external and internal regulations, procedures, and guidelines.
