AtkinsRéalis Canada Inc. is seeking a Lead Electrical Engineer to drive electrical design for mineral processing facilities from concept through construction. Lead technical direction, manage staff, and coordinate with multidisciplinary teams for safe, reliable power systems including E-Houses, MV/LV switchgear, and MCCs.

Req: 10+ years in power-system design, P.Eng. in Canada/Quebec, knowledge of CEC/CSA/IEEE, and proficiency with ETAP, SKM and AutoCAD Electrical.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of power-system design experience.
• Experience with E-Houses, MV/LV switchgear and MCCs.

We are currently seeking a Lead Electrical Engineer to join our Global Minerals & Metals (M&M) team and to support our growth to align with the demand to supply responsibly sourced critical minerals. The Lead Electrical Engineer will support all Electrical activities during a mineral process plant design in all phases of a project execution. Experience in aluminum projects will be considered an asset. This opportunity will be to support the M&M business located in Montreal, Toronto, Quebec cities. There is potential for work at client sites and project responsibilities will be added as needed. In some cases, the opportunity may be available to relocate to other Canadian or international destinations for extended periods of time.

Your role: Lead role for the electrical engineering commitments in accordance with scope, schedule, budget and procedures to ensure successful project completion. Provide electrical systems design technical leadership and project management for design mandates throughout the project lifecycle including construction phase. Manage electrical staff resources assigned to projects, mentor continuous development and participate in opportunities to recruit new team members. Lead and actively participate in, and document, meetings with clients, contractors, and other consultants. Review tender submissions and quotations from contractors, as required. Capability to prepare design briefs, schematics, project documents and perform all required engineering calculations. Providing technical guidance and quality assurance to electrical staff to ensure the technical adequacy of electrical engineering project work.

About you

Must hold a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation in Canada / Quebec. Have relevant experience in mining and mineral processing facilities, including the design and integration of E-Houses, medium- and low-voltage (MV/LV) switchgear, and Motor Control Centers (MCCs). A minimum of 10 years of experience in power system design is required, covering medium- and low-voltage distribution systems, protection and control schemes, grounding systems, and arc flash mitigation strategies. Proficiency in engineering tools such as ETAP, SKM, and AutoCAD Electrical is essential. Having knowledge of medium voltage electrical systems, substation equipment (apparatus, protection and control) as well as distribution. Strong understanding of applicable standards and codes, including the Canadian Electrical Code (CEC), CSA and IEEE standards, as well as mining-specific safety and electrical regulations. The candidate must be able to apply these standards effectively in hazardous or high-load operating conditions. Experience leading multidisciplinary coordination efforts among electrical, mechanical, and automation teams. The candidate should be capable of producing detailed and complete design packages, including single-line diagrams, cable schedules, load lists, and equipment specifications. Having a high level of interpersonal communication skills, including a good command of the English* language, written and oral. * This position requires proficiency in a language other than French, namely English, as the work to be produced is intended for audiences located elsewhere in Canada, internationally, or in another region of the world.
