Position: Infrastructure Platform Architect

Compensation Details :
- Infra. Platform Architect 18 : Salaries typically range from $94,664 to $126,219 annually, based on qualifications and experiences, plus a performance-based incentive.
Location:
- Export Development Canada operates in a hybrid work environment, currently requiring employees to work in the office 2 days per week. (subject to change)
- This role can be performed from EDC’s headquarters in Ottawa or from one of our Community Hubs located in Toronto, Mississauga, Montreal, Brossard, Laval, Calgary, Halifax, or Vancouver.

Team Overview:
- The Digital & Technology Solutions (DTS) group under the leadership of the Chief Information Officer was established in 2023 with the mission of empowering our customers and colleagues to take on the world, by seamlessly delivering secure and reliable digital experiences. Digital & Technology Solutions has set out to achieve the following objectives for EDC:
- Define, execute, and sustain the integrated technology target state, target data model and technology operations required to enable EDC’s 2030 business transformation.
- Establish and manage the rolling 3 Year Digital Roadmap that sequences the technology outcomes required to achieve the technology target state and facilitate its execution across all domains in the organization.
- Keep pace with industry trends and emerging technologies, ensuring EDC has access to the digital technology tools it needs to stay relevant in the market and grow Canadian global trade.
- Lead and ensure integrated digital, data, infrastructure, and cybersecurity implementations to create excellent customer, user, and employee experiences.
- We are seeking a highly skilled Infrastructure Platform Architect with deep technical expertise across infrastructure, networking, compute & storage, and workplace technologies. This role is instrumental in designing and guiding the delivery of scalable, high-performance infrastructure solutions that support both day-to-day operations and transformative digital initiatives.
- You will serve as a critical bridge between internal EDC technology teams, our Managed Services Partner (Accenture) and other vendors in our ecosystem, providing architectural oversight across run, grow, and transform initiatives. Your solutions will support cloud-first, software-defined infrastructure strategies, legacy modernization, and digital workplace enablement.
- The Solutions Architect reports to the Chapter Lead, Infrastructure Architecture & Engineering
What you will be doing:
1. Infrastructure Architecture & Solution Design
- Design end-to-end infrastructure architectures that are scalable, secure, resilient, and aligned with enterprise standards and roadmaps.
- Identify opportunities for shared services and reusable components to drive efficiency and strategic reuse.
- Define cloud-smart, hybrid, and on-premises infrastructure strategies that support business transformation and modernization.
- Incorporate “security by design” principles into infrastructure solutions to meet cybersecurity, compliance, and data protection standards.
- Ensure seamless integration and interoperability across platforms, applications, and workplace technologies.
2. Strategic Planning & Technology Lifecycle Management
- Develop long-term infrastructure strategies and short-term tactical plans to support evolving business needs.
- Align infrastructure initiatives with enterprise architecture, business goals, and IT service management frameworks.
- Manage the lifecycle of infrastructure technologies, including upgrade strategies, end-of-life planning, and vendor roadmaps.
- Evaluate emerging technologies and provide recommendations for investment, adoption, or retirement.
3. Operational Excellence & Resiliency
- Support business continuity, disaster recovery, and high availability architecture initiatives across critical systems.
- Collaborate with operations, security, and risk teams to ensure infrastructure resiliency and alignment to SLAs.
- Establish observability and monitoring architecture to support proactive system health, performance tuning, and incident response.
- Contribute to automation initiatives through Infrastructure as Code (IaC), configuration management, and orchestration tools.
4. Stakeholder Collaboration & Governance
- Serve as a technical advisor across internal EDC teams and with external partners (e.g., Accenture), ensuring architectural consistency and alignment.
- Participate in governance processes, RFP evaluations, and technology procurement decisions.
- Translate complex business requirements into pragmatic infrastructure designs that enable secure, efficient service delivery.
- Provide guidance and mentoring to engineering teams, while educating stakeholders on infrastructure strategy and capabilities.
What we are looking for:
- Undergraduate degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.
- Minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in infrastructure architecture or engineering roles with expertise in:
- Hybrid and cloud infrastructure (Azure preferred)
- Networking and security frameworks
- Virtualization and containerization (e.g., VMware, Docker, Kubernetes)
- Storage and backup technologies
- Workplace solutions (M365, Windows 11, Intune, etc.)
- Automation and orchestration (e.g., Terraform, Ansible).
- Proven experience leading cross-functional teams and delivering integrated solutions in large enterprise environments.
- Strong analytical skills and the ability to resolve complex technical issues across domains.
- Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to produce clear architectural documentation and influence stakeholders at all levels.
What will make you stand out:
- Bilingualism in both official languages (French and English).
- Industry certifications (e.g., Azure Solutions Architect Expert, VMware VCP, Cisco, Microsoft).
- Familiarity with architecture frameworks such as TOGAF, BIAN.
- Knowledge of ITIL and service management practices.
