Job summary

Accenture in Toronto is seeking a Construction Safety Officer to perform construction assurance and compliance activities on the assigned projects, on-site five days a week.

You will support project teams to develop Safe Work Procedures and to implement them for safe execution, conduct inspections, and oversee contractor activities to ensure OHSA compliance.

Collaborate with Integrated Project Team and stakeholders to review activities and mitigate risk for safe, efficient delivery.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years of relevant experience on large construction projects.
• College Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety or Risk Management.
• Certification in CRSP/CHSC/GSC for CSC/NSO preferred.
• Strong knowledge of OHSA and Construction regulations.

Responsibilities

• Perform construction assurance and compliance activities on the assigned projects.
• Support project teams to develop Safe Work Procedures and to implement effectively for safe execution.
• Perform formal inspections and audits to ensure compliance with OHSA legislation, standards and contract requirements.
• Provide day-to-day oversight for on-site construction work conducted by contractors to assess contractor compliance with OHSA and contract requirements, and help identify hazards and implement risk controls.
• Review site activities and support protection of workers, the public, infrastructure and operations.
• Engage with Integrated Project Team and stakeholders to provide consistent, continuous support.
• Review, analyze and outline construction activities with IP team to ensure safe and efficient delivery.
• Participate in incident investigations and follow-up actions to ensure corrective actions are implemented.
• Assist the Safety Director and Safety team with other tasks as required.

  • Support Project teams to develop Safe Work Procedures and to implement effectively for the safe execution of the works.
  • Perform formal inspections and audits to ensure compliance with the relevant OHS legislation, standards and contract requirements.
  • Provide day to day oversight for on-site construction work conducted by contractors to assess contractor compliance against the relevant OHSA legislation and contract requirements, support with the identification of hazards and implementation of risk mitigation controls.
  • Review site activities and provide support for the protection of workers as well as public, infrastructure and operations.
  • Engage, coordinate and work with Integrated Project Team and internal/external stakeholders to provide consistent and continuous support.
  • In collaboration with the Integrated Project team, review, analyze and outline construction activities and work areas to ensure safe and efficient delivery.
  • Participate and/or support others with incident investigations, including follow up actions to ensure implementation of identified corrective actions.
  • Assist the Safety Director and Safety team with other tasks as required.
• Working Conditions

• Experience
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience
  • Experience in railway safety, infrastructure and heavy civil
• Education
  • College Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety or Risk Management, or a combination of education and industry experience
• Licenses OR Certifications
  • Holding a recognized certification in at least one of the following: Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP), Canadian Health and Safety Consultant (CHSC), Gold Seal Certificate (GSC) for Construction Safety Coordinator (CSC) or National Safety Officer (NSO) is preferred.
• Skills and Competencies
  • Strong understanding of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Construction regulations and its application to construction projects
  • Ability to arrange priorities and elevate competing risks to meet deadlines with minimum input from leadership
  • Keen eye for detail and adept problem-solving abilities
  • Must have demonstrated experience relaying and receiving information (written and verbal)
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Office
