Job summary

Accenture Infrastructure & Capital Projects Inc. in Toronto is seeking a Safety Specialist for tunnels to lead onsite safety on major capital works. The role offers a competitive CAD 120k–170k annual salary and a clear path in a growing practice that values safety leadership.

Qualifications

  • Minimum five years of direct onsite construction safety management experience.
  • College Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety or Risk Management.
  • Advanced understanding of OHSA and Construction Regulations and on-site safety culture.
  • Safety professional designations such as CRSP, CRST, CHSC or NCSO.
  • Experience in underground construction safety, particularly tunneling.
  • Experience conducting field safety audits and inspections.
  • Extensive knowledge of occupational health and safety legislation.
  • Experience auditing OH&S management systems.
  • Strong knowledge of safety programs, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
  • Experience in safety training and incident investigations.

Responsibilities

  • Align with the Health, Safety and Wellbeing strategies of the project and support the implementation of HSW initiatives.
  • Champion transformational Occupational Safety initiatives and drive implementation with contractors.
  • Collaborate with contractor safety and construction teams to promote the project safety culture.
  • Conduct regular field audits and inspections per the safety plan.
  • Track corrective and preventive actions (CAPAs) and ensure timely closure.
  • Prepare required reports and provide data inputs for project reporting.
  • Develop and deliver safety training materials and briefings for stakeholders.
  • Support Annual Service Plans and other project deliverables.

  • Safety Culture:
    • Align with the Health, Safety and Wellbeing (HSW) strategies of the project and support the implementation of HSW initiatives.
    • Champion transformational Occupational Safety, Health and Wellbeing initiatives and drive their implementation with contractors.
    • Collaborate with and influence contractor safety and construction teams to promote and strengthen the YNSE project safety culture.
    • Demonstrate the ability to work collaboratively across departments, teams, and organizational levels to achieve shared goals.
    • Build and maintain positive working relationships through open communication, mutual respect, and a solution-oriented approach.
    • Actively seek stakeholder input, value diverse perspectives, and contribute to a culture of teamwork and continuous improvement.
  • Safety Assurance Activities:
    • Conduct regular field audits and inspections in accordance with project safety assurance plan requirements.
    • Ensure corrective and preventive actions (CAPAs) arising from incidents, observations, audits, and inspections are tracked and completed in a timely manner.
    • Conduct safety assurance reviews to verify that industry best practices are consistently implemented across applicable project activities.
    • Prepare required reports and provide data inputs for project reporting.
    • Collect and maintain records required for evaluating the effectiveness of safety programs.
    • Compile project-wide HSW KPIs and leading indicators and report findings to the safety director or designate to support continuous improvement initiatives.
    • Ensure timely reporting and investigation of incidents.
    • Verify that corrective and preventive actions are effectively implemented and sustained.
    • Develop and deliver best-practice guides, training materials, presentations, and briefing packages tailored to the needs of specific project stakeholders.
    • Perform additional duties as required to support project deliverables and key activities during Annual Service Plans.

HERE’S WHAT YOU’LL NEED:
  • Minimum of five(5) years of direct onsite construction safety management experience.
  • College Diploma orBachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety or Risk Management, andindustry experience
  • Advanced understanding of Occupational Health and Safety Act and ConstructionRegulations, its application on construction projects, establishment of strong safetyculture on-site and accident prevention techniques, compliance with external andinternal policies.
  • Safety professional designations including at least one of the following:
    • Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP)
    • Canadian Registered Safety Technician (CRST)
    • Canadian Health and Safety Consultant (CHSC)
    • National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO)
  • Experience in underground construction safety, particularly tunneling projects.
  • Experience conducting field safety audits and inspections.
  • Extensive knowledge of occupational health and safety legislation.
  • Experience auditing Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems.
  • Strong technical knowledge of safety programs, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
  • Experience in safety training, incident investigations, and safety performance measurement.
  • Experience in injury management and incident investigation
  • Experience working on multidisciplinary rail and transit projects and/or complex civil infrastructure projects in brownfield and urban environments with adjacent infrastructure.
Bonus points if you have:
  • Other professional and technical designations are considered an asset.
  • Strong understanding of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Construction regulations and its application to construction projects.
  • Familiarity with Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training, Skills and Development,Electrical Safety Authority, WSIB, TSSA, policies and practices and theirrelationship to the transit industry.
  • Familiarity with IHSA COR™ Program.
  • Excellent knowledge of electrical safety processes, specific to the Province ofOntario and transit environment.
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Ability to arrange priorities and elevate competing risks to meet deadlines with minimum input from leadership
  • Keen eye for detail and adept problem-solving abilities
  • Must havedemonstratedexperience relaying and receiving information (written and verbal)
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Office
