Construction Safety Officer
Responsibilities:
- Provide construction safety assurance by reviewing and assessing the Contractor’s Safety Plan and Safe Work Method submissions and inspecting construction sites.
- Collaborate with and influence the client team to implement and maintain the OSHW program.
- Undertake integrated functional assurance reviews to ensure best practices are implemented consistently across projects.
- Champion and drive transformational Occupational Safety, Health & Wellbeing initiatives with alliance partners.
- Support a dynamic lessons learned and business improvement process for Occupational Safety, Health & Wellbeing.
- Produce reports and input data for safety reporting.
- Ensure the delivery of Occupational Safety, Health & Wellbeing initiatives within the MCS team and with the client.
- Develop and deliver best practice guides, training, presentations, and briefing packages tailored to the target audience's role.
- Conduct regular safety inspections and audits, taking corrective actions to eliminate unsafe acts or conditions.
- Report violations of compliance or regulatory standards as appropriate.
- Collect reports for safety performance evaluation.
- Ensure timely incident reporting and track corrective and preventative actions (CAPA).
- Follow up on CAPA to ensure effectiveness.
- Verify contractor and subcontractor compliance with safety rules and regulations.
- Ensure implementation of client and regulatory policies on site.
- Supply safety KPI data to promote continuous improvement.
- Perform additional duties as necessary to support project safety objectives.
Working Conditions:
Experience:
- Minimum of 5 years of onsite safety management experience and health and safety practices.
Education:
- College Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety or Risk Management, or equivalent experience.
Licenses or Certifications:
- Recognized certification such as Chartered IOSH, FIIRSM/MIIRSM, CRSP, CHSC, GSC for CSC or NCSO.
Skills and Competencies:
- Experience in tunnel construction safety is required.
- Experience with multi-disciplinary rail and transit projects, or complex civil infrastructure in urban environments.
- Injury management and incident investigation skills.
- Field safety audit and inspection experience.
- Profound knowledge of OHS legislation.
- Ability to meet schedule expectations and deliver on time.
- Strong technical knowledge of safety procedures.
- Experience in safety training, investigations, and performance indicators.
- Excellent organization and time management skills.
- Dependability, honesty, and responsibility.
- Ability to prioritize and escalate risks effectively.
- Attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
- Effective communication skills (written and verbal).
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
