Job description

Construction Safety Officer

Provide construction safety assurance by reviewing and assessing the Contractor’s Safety Plan and Safe Work Method submissions and inspecting construction sites.

Collaborate and influence the client team to implement and maintain the OSHW program.

Undertake focused integrated functional assurance reviews to ensure best practices are being implemented consistently across all applicable projects.

Champion transformational Occupational Safety, Health & Wellbeing initiatives and drive their implementation with alliance partners.

Support a dynamic lessons learned and business improvement process for Occupational Safety, Health & Wellbeing across the program.

Produce required reports and input data for reporting.

Ensure the delivery of Occupational Safety, Health & Wellbeing initiatives internally within the MCS team and with the client.

Work with the Safety Manager to develop best practice guides, training, presentations, and briefing packages, and deliver them to appropriate target audiences based on their roles within the program.

Conduct regular safety inspections and audits of jobsites and public areas, taking necessary corrective actions to eliminate unsafe acts or conditions and meet client expectations.

Report violations of compliance or regulatory standards to relevant parties as appropriate.

Collect reports for records and evaluate safety program performance.

Ensure timely reporting of incidents.

Track and complete corrective and preventative actions (CAPA) related to incidents, observations, audits, and inspections in a timely manner.

Follow up on CAPA to ensure effectiveness.

Ensure all contractors and subcontractors' employees comply with safety rules and regulations.

Verify implementation of all applicable client and regulatory policies and procedures on project sites.

Contribute information for HSE KPIs to promote continuous improvement initiatives monthly.

Perform additional duties as necessary to support deliverables and key activities.

Experience
  • Minimum of 5 years of direct onsite safety management experience and health and safety practices
Education
  • College Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety or Risk Management, or a combination of education and industry experience
Licenses or Certifications
  • Recognized certification such as Chartered IOSH, FIIRSM/MIIRSM, CRSP, CHSC, Gold Seal Certificate (GSC) for CSC or NCSO
Skills and Competencies
  • Experience in tunnel construction safety is required
  • Experience with multi-disciplinary rail and transit projects, or complex civil infrastructure projects in brownfield/urban environments with adjacent infrastructure
  • Injury management and incident investigation experience
  • Field safety audit and inspection experience
  • Profound knowledge of OHS legislation
  • Experience in meeting schedule expectations and delivering work on time
  • Technical knowledge of safety procedures
  • Experience in safety training, investigations, and performance indicators
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Honesty, dependability, and responsibility
  • Ability to prioritize and escalate risks to meet deadlines
  • Detail-oriented and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
