POSITION SUMMARY

The Systems Administrator plays a key leadership role in the design, deployment, and support of RainCity Housing’s IT infrastructure. Reporting to the Manager, Information Systems, this position ensures our systems are secure, resilient, and designed to support the evolving needs of the organization.

You’ll work closely with internal stakeholders, the IT team, and external vendors to manage infrastructure projects and maintain robust procedures around disaster recovery, access management, patching, compliance, and security monitoring. You’ll also serve as a technical lead for User Support, providing escalation support, mentoring junior staff, and overseeing the effective functioning of day-to-day operations.

In this role, you'll take ownership of Microsoft 365 cloud security and compliance tools—leveraging solutions like Microsoft Defender, Intune, Purview, Entra ID, Conditional Access, and Power Automate to streamline operations, protect sensitive data, and enforce modern workplace security standards. Additionally, experience with Fortinet firewalls, NAS storage, and network segmentation (VLANing) is essential to this role.

POSITION TYPE : Temporary until March 01, 2026 or return of incumbent, Full-time, 1.0 FTE, 40 Weekly

EMPLOYEE GROUP : Excluded

SALARY : $60,000 - $70,000 Annually

TERM : Temporary

START DATE : April 30, 2025 or ASAP

SCHEDULE : Monday to Friday with flex time. Some evening work required periodically, mix of remote and on-site work, as per operational need.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Design, deploy, and maintain core IT infrastructure including servers, cloud services, storage, firewalls, and secure networks.
  • Implement and maintain layered security controls across endpoints, identities, and data using tools such as Microsoft Defender for Endpoint, Defender for Identity, Defender for Office 365, and Microsoft Intune.
  • Oversee data governance and compliance using Microsoft Purview for information protection, retention policies, and data loss prevention (DLP).
  • Manage and secure access using Entra ID, Conditional Access Policies, and Privileged Identity Management (PIM).
  • Lead configuration and security of FortiGate firewalls, NAS-based storage systems, and VLAN-based network segmentation.
  • Administer and optimize Microsoft 365, Azure, and Azure SQL environments to support user productivity and business continuity.
  • Create and manage Power Automate flows to eliminate manual processes and increase operational efficiency.
  • Develop and maintain disaster recovery plans, patch management workflows, centralized logging, and security monitoring systems.
  • Act as senior technical resource and escalation point for the User Support team; mentor junior staff and standardize support procedures.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with the Business Systems team to align infrastructure capabilities with operational and strategic needs.
  • Stay current with emerging technologies and trends in IT security, cloud infrastructure, and automation.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

  • Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • At least 2 years of experience managing Windows Active Directory environments in hybrid setups
  • Minimum 2 years of experience with Exchange (on-prem, hybrid, or cloud)
  • At least 1 year of scripting experience with PowerShell (we’d love to hear about your custom tools or automation!)
  • Strong experience with Azure and Microsoft 365
  • Proven experience managing Fortinet firewalls, VLANs, and NAS-based storage solutions
  • Hands-on experience with Microsoft Intune, Defender Suite, Purview, and Conditional Access policies
  • Familiarity with compliance frameworks and implementing governance via Microsoft Purview or similar tools
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License
  • Experience in a non-profit or mission-driven organization is an asset
  • Commitment to the mission and values of RainCity Housing, and familiarity with Housing First and Harm Reduction principles
