The Victoria Cool Aid Society (Cool Aid) provides affordable housing, emergency shelters, primary health and dental care, nutritious meals, and wellness programs such as recreation, employment, and volunteer opportunities. Reporting to the Manager of Information Systems (IS), the IS Specialist establishes, evaluates, operates, maintains, and coordinates the use of all local and wide area networks (LAN, WAN, WI-FI) server networks (physical and virtual), hardware, software, related Society computer equipment and communications equipment. In collaboration with the IS Manager, the IS Specialist ensures that the Society’s evolving information system needs are identified and fulfilled.
A narrow selection of the larger scope and responsibilities for this position are as follows :
- Maintain, diagnose, troubleshoot and administer the use of local area networks (LANs), wide area networks (WANs), server networks including virtualization, and computer workstations.
- Administer the Hyper-V hypervisor for virtualized servers.
- Administer the radio transmitted data network for server replication.
- Ongoing configuration and maintenance of Ubiquiti and Cisco Meraki Wi-Fi appliances and networks.
- Evaluate and administer and configure components of software, hardware and network peripherals, including system build of computers.
- Evaluate and install software and databases particular to the Society including, but not limited to : Tracker, Pathnet, Pharmanet, CHR, MS Dynamics CRM, Pharmaclik, QHR, Kroll, and SALTO.
- Provide problem-solving services to network users.
- Monitor and manage computer and system components, including server resources.
- Back-up, restore, and maintain on-site and off-site data storage of client, patient and personal information.
- Apply security patches / updates to all servers.
- Administer all camera monitoring systems.
- Install and configure front and backend database applications.
- Administer the MS Office 365 email system.
- Set up new users including granting security access to data.
- Provide emergency maintenance service.
- Maintain all Society owned cell phones and landlines, setup and configuration.
- Identify current and future needs of the Society and in collaboration with the IS Manager, and research, evaluate, and implement new technology.
- Evaluate and coordinate user requests for new data elements and systems and communicate with programmers.
- Analyze user support statistics and other data and recommend appropriate measures.
- Analyze networks, software, and hardware difficulties and decide on appropriate solutions.
- Recommend technology and privacy policies, and procedures in conjunction with legislative requirements and Society protocols.
- Manage all relevant software licenses and program contracts.
- Develop internet / intranet solutions.
- Provide coverage for the IS Manager as needed.
Qualifications
Education
- Completion of a college or other program in computer science, network administration, or in a related field.
- Completion of Microsoft Certified Systems Analyst (MCSA) or Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP A+ Certification - hardware and operating systems) is preferable.
Experience
- Three (3) years’ experience working in a similar environment.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Educator Certification (MCE), Industry Certified Systems Analyst (ICSA) or equivalent.
Requirements
- The Ministry of Public Safety and Solicitor General Criminal Record Check must be completed prior to commencement of employment.
- Class 5 BC Driver’s License and clean driving abstract.
Job Information
- Hourly Wage Rate : $33.26 - $35.95.
- Work Days : Monday to Friday. Some work outside of these hours will be necessary on occasion. Some on call work may be required
- Shift Time : 8 : 30am to 4 : 30pm.
- Weekly Hours : 40.
- Union : Exempt.
