Qualifications

  • University degree in a related field such as Criminal Justice, Law Enforcement, Information Management, Records Management, Public Administration, or a related discipline.

Responsibilities

  • Manage investigative records and assist staff ensuring electronic and physical records, exhibits, digital evidence, and disclosure materials are organized, secure, and compliant.
  • Audit investigative files for completeness, accuracy, quality, integrity, and disclosure readiness.
  • Liaise with police services, government ministries, Crown prosecutors, defence counsel, and other stakeholders regarding disclosure and records management.
  • Review, vet, and redact investigative records for disclosure per applicable laws (Police Act, POPA, PIPA, Fatality Inquiries Act).
  • Support operations through setup/maintenance of mobile tech, secure remote access, records management tools, and other investigative software.
  • Provide first-line training on investigative technologies, databases, hardware, and records systems.
  • Complete legal searches using JOIN, ROADS, CPIC and court searches to support investigations.
  • Manage and support integrity and functionality of databases and case management systems for reporting, analytics, and major case management.

The Police Review Commission (PRC) is Alberta’s independent civilian oversight agency responsible for police oversight and complaint management under the Police Act. The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) operates as a branch of the PRC and is responsible for investigating incidents involving serious injury or death that may have resulted from the actions of a police officer, as well as other serious or sensitive incidents involving police conduct.

ASIRT integrates civilian investigators and investigators from partner law enforcement agencies to conduct objective, independent, and thorough investigations involving Alberta police officers and peace officers. Role Responsibilities

As an Information Administrator, you will play an essential role in managing investigative information and supporting the integrity, security, retention, disclosure, and lifecycle management of investigative records within the ASIRT branch. You will be involved throughout the lifecycle of investigations, from file creation within electronic case management systems through to disclosure, records retention, and investigative support processes.

Responsibilities Include, But Are Not Limited To
  • Managing investigative records and assisting investigative staff in ensuring electronic and physical records, exhibits, digital evidence, and disclosure materials are appropriately organized, secured, and maintained in accordance with operational and legislative requirements.
  • Auditing investigative files for completeness, accuracy, quality, integrity, disclosure readiness, and compliance with records management standards and evidentiary requirements.
  • Liaising with police services, government ministries, Crown prosecutors, defence counsel, fatality inquiry stakeholders, oversight agencies, and access and privacy professionals regarding disclosure, information-sharing, and records management requirements.
  • Reviewing, vetting, preparing, and redacting investigative records for disclosure in accordance with applicable legislation, including the Police Act, Police Conduct and Oversight Regulation, Protection of Privacy Act (POPA), Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA), Fatality Inquiries Act, and other applicable legislation, policies, and evidentiary standards.
  • Supporting investigative operations through the setup and maintenance of mobile technology, secure remote access systems, records management tools, X-Fire, and other investigative software platforms.
  • Providing first-line technical and operational support and training related to investigative technologies, databases, hardware, software applications, and records management systems.
  • Completing necessary legal searches and obtaining documents required to support investigations utilizing programs such as JOIN, ROADS, CPIC and court searches.
  • Managing and supporting the integrity, customization, and functionality of investigative databases and case management systems to support operational requirements, reporting, analytics, and major case management principles.

The successful candidate will demonstrate strong interpersonal and communication skills to effectively collaborate with internal and external stakeholders while meeting legislated and operational timelines related to investigative disclosure, correspondence, access to information requests, and records management obligations. The role requires exceptional attention to detail, sound judgment, discretion, organizational skills, and the ability to manage highly sensitive and confidential information with professionalism, objectivity, and diplomacy.

Qualifications

A university degree in a related field such as Criminal Justice, Law Enforcement, Information Management, Records Management, Public Administration, or a related discipline supplemented by related experience is required.

Equivalencies will be considered on the basis of one year of related experience for one year of related education or one year of related education for one year of related experience.

Assets
  • Experience working with X-Fire or a comparable investigative case management system.
  • Experience interpreting and applying privacy, access, and disclosure legislation (e.g., POPA, PIPA).
  • Experience in records and information management, including database administration.
  • Experience managing digital evidence, disclosure processes, or related information requests.
  • Experience using specialized imaging software and equipment.
  • Experience working within a law enforcement, investigative, oversight, or public sector environment.
Notes
  • There are (2) full time, position available, one permanent and one temporary.
  • Final candidates will be required to undergo and pass a federal and maintain that level of security throughout their employment at ASIRT. Background checks, including a review of previous law enforcement service history and disciplinary history, will be considered
