Yukon Hospital Corporation is seeking an Infection Prevention & Control Practitioner – Quality & Strategy at Whitehorse General Hospital to support infection control and occupational health initiatives.

This role requires 1–2 years in infection control/occupational health in a healthcare setting, strong knowledge of disinfection/sterilization, and robust analytical skills. Regular full-time schedule, on-site in Whitehorse, Yukon.

Qualifications

The Infection Control Practitioner supports the strategic goals and objectives of the corporate Infection Control; Occupational Health Programs and provides infection control and occupational health expertise within the Yukon Hospital Corporation (YHC).

Knowledge and Skills Required:

• One to two years as an Infection Control/Occupational Health Practitioner in a healthcare care setting.
• Extensive knowledge and understanding of basic nursing procedures;
• Extensive knowledge and understanding of the principles of cleaning, disinfection and sterilization processes;
• Extensive knowledge and understanding of the modes of transmission of infection;
• Extensive knowledge and ability to identify infectious diseases strategies;
• Extensive knowledge of trends and developments in occupational health and wellness within a hospital setting;
• Extensive knowledge of and ability to use medical equipment used in health assessments, immunization programs and workplace surveillance;
• Experience in the field of Infection Control and Occupational Health and specific knowledge of related requirements and practices in a Hospital setting;
• Knowledge and understanding of legislative and regulatory bodies that affect infection control/occupational health practices;
• Knowledge and understanding of risk management principles, methods and techniques as it relates to infection prevention and control and occupational health;
• Knowledge and understanding of program development and evaluation methods and techniques;
• Knowledge and ability to work independently with a high level of professional judgment and initiative in making technical decisions involving the analysis of existing policies and procedures for the Infection Prevention and Control and Occupational Health programs;
• Knowledge and ability to utilize adult education learning techniques;
• Knowledge and ability to intervene effectively to resolve conflict and manage competing demands;
• Understanding of microbiology, immunology, epidemiology and statistical analysis;
• Very good written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills;
• Ability to plan, organize, analyze and evaluate multiple tasks;
• Ability to interpret information collected from various sources, review scientific evidence and make recommendation to guide practice;
• Strong prioritization; organizational and problem-solving skills with the ability to collect and process information from multiple sources to make prudent decisions;
• Demonstrated computer skill proficiency including Windows based programs (i.e. MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint; and Outlook); and
• Ability to work in a cross-cultural setting.

The successful candidate should have Safety certification training (e.g., Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) is required. University Degree or College diploma in Human Resource Management or appropriate field is required. Fit testing – Qualitative and Quantitative. Significant experience (3 – 5 years) with disability management, accident investigation, workplace inspection and job hazard analysis. 1 -2 years supervisory experience, including experience in discipline and grievance procedures. Three to five years’ experience in occupational health and safety is also required. An equivalent combination of education/training and/or experience may be considered. Workplace Hazardous Materials Information Systems (WHMIS) and other Occupational Health & Safety related training is desirable/considered strong assets.
