Job Description
Position Purpose: Performs maintenance services, installation, or repairs in one or more skill areas such as plumbing, mechanical, electrical repairs, pneumatic, hydraulic, installation, carpentry, painting, or vehicle servicing.
Primary Duties/Responsibilities:
- Performs routine and preventative maintenance, lubrication, and minor adjustments on machines and related equipment, including pumps, engines, centrifuges, generators, valves, gates, mixers, conveyors, blowers, dryers, chemical feed and odor control, disinfection equipment, vacuum filters, and belt presses. Reports operational problems promptly.
- Learns to inspect and troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electronic equipment and instrumentation. Dismantles, repairs, and reassembles equipment ensuring safe and efficient operation.
- Performs facility maintenance and repair, including replacing or installing light bulbs, glass, doors, tiles, locks, carpet, and painting.
- May perform manual labor such as cleaning equipment, facilities, grounds, and proper waste disposal. Operates vehicles for plant purposes.
- Learns to estimate time and material costs and assists in other plant areas as directed.
Work Environment:
- Spends 100% of time in operations environment.
- 25-35% outdoors, sometimes in inclement weather.
- Uses company service vehicles as required.
- May serve rotational 24-hour emergency on-call.
- Potential hazards include fumes, chemicals, noise, machinery, high pressure, temperatures, slippery surfaces, water, and electrical hazards.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED; ability to read, write, and comprehend English; able to follow instructions.
- 6 months to 2 years of related experience, able to understand specifications, blueprints, and manuals.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Basic math skills.
- Mechanical aptitude; ability to interpret meters, gauges, and manuals.
- Experience with power, pneumatic, hydraulic tools, and shop tools preferred.
- Ability to operate CMMS software.
- Teamwork, learning ability, and willingness to assume responsibilities.
Certifications/Licenses/Training:
- Valid driver’s license and safe driving record.
- Safety and operational training, OSHA, Confined Space, HAZWOPER preferred.
- Proficiency in PPE use, mechanical drives, hydraulics, pneumatics, electronics, and control systems preferred.
Physical Requirements:
- Standing (25%), walking (75%), lifting up to 50 pounds, working at heights, confined spaces, and various positions.
