Utilizing expertise in the theories, concepts and techniques of safety and occupational health management, the incumbent provides consultation services, technical assistance and/or inspections to identify existing and/or potential violations of occupational safety and health regulations in small businesses throughout the US Virgin Islands.
Required Qualifications
1.Knowledge of the theories, concepts, techniques of safety and occupational health management and of national safety and occupational laws, policies, regulations, standards, directives and methods
2 Ability to work across functional areas and with a diverse population
3.Outreach skills include; public relations, ability to effectively represent OSHA and the UVI Safety Consultation Program in meetings with employer and employee organization, interest groups, and the general public.
4.Excellent time management skills
5.Exceptional customer service
6.Bachelor’s degree and 3 years of safety and health experience or an associates degree with 5 years experience and a commitment to on-the-job-training and continuing education.
Preferred Qualifications
Prior OSHA training required. Master’s Degree in an appropriate area of specialization.
Physical Demands
The performance of these duties requires regular and recurrent standing, walking, climbing, crouching, stretching and lifting moderately heavy items such as storage containers. The incumbent of this position is required to travel and to engage in ongoing mandatory training.

Advertised Job Duties
1. Provides formal and informal instruction on occupational and industrial health with the goal of eliminating or reducing hazards, fatalities, injuries and illnesses in US Virgin Islands workplaces.
2. Performs inspections to identify violations of federal and local safety and health regulations.
3. Provides expert industrial hygiene technical advice on air sampling.
4. Accompanies safety specialist on site inspections that require expert industrial hygiene technical advice.
5. Reviews workplace safety and health management systems and develops appropriate recommendations for customer implementation and/or improvement of required safety and health programs.
6. Develops and makes presentations.
7. Monitors and conducts sampling as required.
8. Completes formal reports ensuring accurate and timely data entry and documentation of, in accordance with occupational safety and health regulations and federal guidelines.
9. Manages procurement and maintenance of industrial hygienist equipment.
10. Performs and conducts industrial hygiene surveys.
11. | Interprets Federal Regulations and National Standard Codes for employers throughout the US Virgin Islands. Interprets OSHA rules, policy, and strategic plan documents to meet established program goals.
12.Develops and implements Territory-wide external training and education programs for small business throughout the US Virgin Islands.
13. Conducts training sessions for the UVI Safety Training Center.
14. Plans, organizes, manages and conducts on-site consultations, training, and follow up visits to achieve the established goals set out in the annual “Consultation Annual Project Plan.
15. Develops and maintain liaison with OSHA enforcement offices, labor organizations, trade and industry associations and other groups interested in occupational safety and health.
16. Provides outreach sessions on new standards, directives and other topics of current interest, both independently and in conjunction with stakeholders (such as employers, employees and business organizations.
17. Serves as a resource for such stakeholders as the insurance industry, educational institutions to promote safety and health programs.
18. Evaluates effectiveness of occupational health programs in reducing work-related injuries and illness for businesses.
19. Prepares training materials, and makes both formal and informal presentations.
20. Assists in the implementation of new occupational health program guidelines as part of the overall effort to reduce workplace accidents.
21. Monitors the success of health programs and changes programs as necessary in order to achieve the maximum reduction in work place accident rates.
22. Identify and maintain working relationship with both the public and private stakeholders (local government, unions, trade industry associations, chambers of commerce, insurance companies, and others) throughout the Territory.
23. Participates in seminars, workshops and conferences, promoting workplace safety and health activities.
24. Confers and develops partnerships with employers, employees, educators, committees, and associations, to develop and establish workable safety and health programs and training materials for the programs.
