Job description

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Industrial Hygienist will leverage anticipation, recognition, evaluation, prevention, and control of workplace hazards or stressors that may impair health and well-being or cause discomfort among workers and the community. The Hygienist will manage the Industrial Hygiene program, including the collection, analysis, and control of workplace health hazards. Responsibilities include reviewing and implementing control measures, conducting training on Health, Safety & Environment accident prevention, developing reports for senior leadership, and collaborating with external agencies and regulators. Additionally, the Hygienist will support the development of new processes for proactive mitigation of exposure risks to facilitate the CSC contract.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Plan, conduct, and complete exposure assessments by collecting, measuring, and analyzing samples of workplace conditions such as air, water, dust, vapors, fumes, gases, mists, heat, cold, noise, and radiation.
  2. Provide expertise on mitigating exposure hazards, leading the implementation of control plans to ensure regulatory compliance and continuous improvement.
  3. Train team members in Health, Safety & Environment controls, accident prevention, and proper use of personal protective equipment.
  4. Document workplace conditions, analyze hygiene data and trends, and identify opportunities for improvement.
  5. Ensure compliance with legal regulations, including DOLAE and ACGIH, by developing and enforcing standards and procedures.
  6. Research, develop, write, and update policies, procedures, methods, and guidelines to guide staff actions.
  7. Prepare industrial hygiene reports by analyzing assessment results and industry best practices for all organizational levels.
  8. Enhance industrial hygiene knowledge through educational workshops, reviewing publications, networking, benchmarking, and participating in professional societies.
  9. Support organizational success by addressing new requests and assisting others in achieving job results.
  10. Mentor and lead the HSE team and production stakeholders on workplace health hazard assessment and control.
  11. Maintain records of exposure assessments, ensuring documentation of physical, chemical, biological, and ergonomic hazards to mitigate occupational illness risks.
  12. Collaborate with external agencies and industry partners to establish best practices and improve workplace and community health.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in science or engineering required.
  • Master's degree in Occupational Hygiene or Industrial Hygiene is a strong asset.
  • Knowledge of industrial hygiene procedures and occupational health standards.
  • Understanding of patient rights and laws such as HIPAA.
  • Qualified or pursuing certification as a Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) or Registered Occupational Hygienist (ROH).
  • 2-5 years of experience in the environment, health, and safety field.
  • Experience with sampling equipment, protocols, and statistical analysis techniques.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to produce comprehensive reports and convey information effectively.
