Job summary

Gerdau Ameristeel Corp. in Whitby, Ontario, is seeking an Industrial Electrician to join our maintenance team. You will troubleshoot AC/DC motors, PLCs, and electrical drives, and service pumps, cranes, and hydraulic/pneumatic systems.

You will document repairs in CMMS and participate in rounds to ensure equipment operates within spec. Qualified candidates hold a Certificate of Qualification (442A or 309A) and can pass a post-offer medical and ergonomic assessment under Ontario Bill 190.

Qualifications

• Industrial Electrician certification required per Skilled Trades Ontario.
• Experience with scheduled and emergency repairs on industrial equipment.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot AC/DC motors, controls, PLC, electrical drives, and high/low voltage systems.
• Service electrical aspects of pumps, motors, cranes, and hydraulic/pneumatic systems.
• Receive instructions and work orders for repairs, installation, and inspections.
• Maintain records in CMMS and logbooks.
• Perform rounds to verify machine condition and normal operation.
• Operate material handling equipment including cranes and tow motors.

WHAT THE POSITION ENTAILS:

Reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor, this position’s job responsibilities include:

• Troubleshoot AC/DC motors, controls, PLC, electrical drives, low/medium/high voltage systems.
• Service the electrical aspect of pumps, motors, cranes, and hydraulic/pneumatic systems.
• Receive instructions, prints or work orders, covering scheduled and emergency repairs, installation, and inspection work to be done.
• Maintain specified records of work performed, details of repairs, and materials usage on computerized maintenance management software (CMMS), work orders, logbooks, and checklists.
• Perform rounds and checks machinery condition using checklists or digital tools to identify abnormalities and ensure that machine functions are operating within the normal specifications.
• Operate material handling equipment such as cranes, tow motor operation including rigging.
• Demonstrate basic computer skills.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

• Certificate of Qualification (Industrial Electrician - 442A or Construction Electrician - 309A) as recognized by Skilled Trades Ontario is required.
