Job summary

Gerdau North America is hiring an Electrician at our Selkirk, MB site. The role involves installing and repairing electrical plant equipment, reading wiring diagrams, and using a range of electrical tools and instruments.

The candidate will work on high voltage systems, perform troubleshooting, and ensure safety standards are met. The ideal candidate holds a Red Seal Certification or Provincial Electrician Journeyman Certificate, has experience in manufacturing, and can handle a rotating

Qualifications

• Experience preferably in a manufacturing environment.
• Ability to work a rotating schedule (continental style); 12 hour shifts and/or day shift.
• Basic computer experience.

Responsibilities

• Receives wiring diagrams, drawings, specifications and instructions covering repair, installation and inspection work.
• Analyzes diagrams and circuits to test, repair, adjust and service equipment and control systems.
• Plans procedures, determines material needs and troubleshoots to minimize production interference.
• Plans and performs work requiring knowledge of electrical principles and wiring codes.
• Works near high voltage equipment up to 550 V and ensures safety precautions.
• Prepares sketches and drawings for control wiring and diagrams.
• Tests and maintains meters and equipment for operating departments.
• Maintains spare parts information from blueprints and catalogs.
• Observes all Safety Rules.

We are currently looking for an Electrician at our Selkirk, MB location.

Responsible for the installation and repair of wire electronics and electrical plant equipment. Ability to read and work with wiring diagrams, drawings and use of electrical and electronic tools, gauges, calibrating and testing equipment, hand tools, drill press, grinder, bench lathe, electric drills, power hack saw, wire stripper, pipe threading machine, acetylene torch, soldering iron, safety devices.

Hourly Rate: $43.62 hour plus COLA (cost of living allowance). Overtime available.

Job Responsibilities

• Receives wiring diagrams, drawings, specifications and instructions covering the scheduled and emergency repair, installation and inspection work to be done
• Analyzes all types of drawings, wiring diagrams and circuits required to test, repair, adjust and service all types of electronic and electrical equipment, electronic and electrical control systems and their components, on production and auxiliary equipment, indicating devices, gauges, etc.
• Plans details of working procedure to determine material or replacement needs and selects a logical approach to “trouble shooting” and repair problems. Answers trouble calls. Considers all safety precautions and proper isolations of circuits to cause a minimum of interference to operations.
• Plans and performs work requiring a thorough knowledge of electrical and electronic principles, wiring specification codes, properties of various materials, and principles of operation and application of equipment
• Works in close proximity to high voltage equipment. Works circuits hot up to and including 550 V
• Makes recommendations for charges and / or modifications in equipment
• Makes sketches and drawings for control circuit wiring, resistance diagrams
• Tests and maintains meters and equipment and similar types of equipment for operating departments
• Obtains information for maintaining spare parts inventory from blue prints, sales catalogue, engineering data, and by conducting field investigations
• Performs related work as assigned
• Observes all Safety Rules

Our Ideal Candidate Will Have

• Red Seal Certification or Provincial Electrician Journeyman Certificate
• Experience preferably in a manufacturing environment
• The ability to work a rotating schedule (continental style schedule); 12 hour shifts and/or day shift (Monday - Friday)
• Strong communication and work ethic, ability to work in a team and with other trades
• Basic computer experience
