Job summary

Big Country Equipment Repair Ltd., a BC-based heavy equipment service provider, is hiring an experienced Licensed Industrial Electrician to perform field service, diagnostics, maintenance, and repairs on electric mining and construction equipment across Canada.

The role requires Red Seal certification, 3–5 years mining experience, and the ability to work independently in demanding environments. Company covers flights to remote sites, provides tools, and offers shared housing and meal allowances.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

We are hiring an experienced licensed Industrial Electrician to perform field service, diagnostics, maintenance, and repairs on heavy mining and construction equipment.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Install, maintain, troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair electrical systems and components on electric mining equipment, including drills, shovels, haul trucks, and related equipment.
• Troubleshoot high-voltage cable systems, AC/DC drives, high-voltage systems, and related electrical components to identify root causes and safely return equipment to production.
• Read and interpret electrical schematics, blueprints, and technical drawings.
• Perform inspections and preventive maintenance to minimize equipment downtime.
• Support mast exchanges, shutdowns, project work, and ongoing site coverage.
• Work closely with mechanics and other trades, and assist with mechanical repairs as needed.
• Ensure compliance with electrical codes, safety standards, and company policies, and maintain accurate maintenance, repair, and inspection documentation.
• Related job requirements as assigned.

Requirements

• Licensed electrician in the province in which the work is being performed. Red Seal certification is required.
• Strong field troubleshooting and industrial electrical experience with high-voltage cable systems, AC/DC drives, and high-voltage systems.
• 3-5 years of mining experience.
• Experience with CAT, Komatsu, Bucyrus, P&H, electric surface drills, electric and hydraulic shovels, haul trucks, and other related mining equipment is preferred or considered an asset.
• Comfortable working through electrical systems to identify root causes and safely return electric mining equipment to production.
• Experience with electric drive haul trucks (Komatsu) is strongly preferred. Experience on Cat electric drive haul trucks is a strong asset.
• Willingness to assist with mechanical work and work closely with mechanics and other trades.
• Ability to work independently in physically demanding environments, including confined spaces and heights, and lift 50 lbs. comfortably.
• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail when diagnosing and repairing electrical systems.
• Interest in a long-term opportunity supporting additional projects and ongoing site coverage.

All Successful Candidates Must

• Be proficient in English, both verbal and written.
• Have a valid Class 5 Driver’s License.
• Provide a minimum of 2 direct supervisor references.
• Pass a Criminal Record check.
• Provide a clean 5-year driver’s abstract.
• Pass an 8-panel drug test (including marijuana) and an alcohol breath test.
• Be able to lift 50 lbs. comfortably.
• Not seeking subcontractor roles (we are not offering subcontractor opportunities at this time).
