What do we need?

We are currently looking for an Industrial Designer to join our growing team. In this role you will be involved in all aspects of the creative design of children's play spaces. Your job will be to create early concepts, develop designs, and produce detailed solutions for product development. Your teammates have training in industrial design, landscape architecture, sculpture, architecture, and engineering, giving you the rewarding experience of working collaboratively with designers from different disciplines and nationalities. We believe the right person for this role will likely have a background in Architecture or Industrial Design with experience in making or building. Experience with child development is a strong advantage for this role. Our clients include internationally renowned Landscape Architecture firms; as well as cities, towns and municipalities; schools; non-profit organizations; and childcare centers.

What are we looking for?

As an Industrial Designer, your job duties will include:

  • consulting with internal and external stakeholders to establish production requirements
  • conducting research into cost properties of production materials and methods of production in consultation with estimation and fabrication teams
  • delivering impactful and engaging presentations and storytelling
  • reading and interpreting blueprints
  • preparing fabrication drawings, specifications and guidelines for production and construction of prototype designs
  • analyzing the intended use of playground equipment and user preferences
  • working effectively as a collaborative team member, prioritizing tasks as required
  • excellent problem-solving skills; our designers and engineers are constantly looking for feedback on how best to construct our unique playground pieces.

Employment Requirements

  • successful completion of university degree in Industrial Design or Architecture (preference given to Masters degree)
  • submission of portfolio of work showcasing custom playground equipment designs
  • 3-5 years of experience in custom playground concept design
  • experience in Rhino, AutoCAD, Adobe InDesign, SolidWorks, and Sketchup
  • proven understanding of both ASTM and CSA safety standards
  • strong illustrative skills, product development experience with extensive experience with hand sketching
  • serious about the importance of play and has a play-centered approach to life
  • abundant creativity with a strong intuition for constructability
  • ability to be creative within the rules to meet safety standards
  • deep curiosity and the ability to listen and comprehend others’ thoughts and visions
  • communicates with contagious passion and energy when making public presentations to explain your designs

Wage: $74,000-84,000/year based on experience
