Job summary

Capital Power Corporation in Canada seeks a motivated engineer to join our Industrial Control Systems and Operational Technology team. You will provide day-to-day engineering support for ICS/OT environments, troubleshoot control systems, and collaborate with operations, maintenance, and engineering teams to keep plants safe, reliable, and efficient.

Ideal candidates have a bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering, 2-4 years of engineering experience, and eligibility for P.Eng/EIT

  • Experience with ICS/OT environments and control systems.
  • Familiarity with DCS/PLC/SCADA and instrumentation.

Responsibilities

  • Provide day-to-day engineering and technical support for ICS/OT environments.
  • Troubleshoot control systems, instrumentation, and network issues to ensure safe plant operations.
  • Support and optimize DCS, PLC, SCADA, data historians, and related infrastructure.
  • Lead and participate in MOC processes, engineering reviews, and technical assessments.

Your Opportunity One Permanent Full-Time Position. Capital Power is currently recruiting for someone who is motivated, curious, and eager to build expertise in industrial control systems, automation, and operational technology. The ideal candidate brings a strong sense of ownership, enjoys solving technical challenges, and works effectively with operations, maintenance, and engineering teams. They are collaborative, proactive, and committed to supporting safe, reliable, and efficient plant operations while continuously developing their technical and professional capabilities.

You will contribute to our team by:

  • Provide day-to-day engineering and technical support for Industrial Control Systems (ICS) and Operational Technology (OT) environments.
  • Troubleshoot control systems, instrumentation, communications, and network issues to support safe and reliable plant operations.
  • Support and optimize Distributed Control Systems (DCS), PLCs, SCADA systems, data historians, and associated infrastructure.
  • Lead and participate in Management of Change (MOC) processes, engineering reviews, and technical assessments.
  • Support sustaining capital projects, operational improvement initiatives, system upgrades, lifecycle replacements, firmware updates, and configuration changes.
  • Partner closely with operations, maintenance teams, vendors, contractors, and OEMs to resolve technical issues and execute projects.
  • Maintain and improve operational data systems, engineering standards, procedures, and technical documentation.
  • Identify and implement opportunities to enhance reliability, maintainability, cybersecurity, and overall operational performance.
  • Support industrial cybersecurity activities, including patch management, monitoring, backup, and recovery processes.
  • Take ownership of assigned work and continuously develop technical and professional capabilities through training, mentorship, and hands-on experience.

What you will bring to the role:

  • Education:
    • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related discipline.
    • Registered Professional Engineer or Engineer-in-Training (EIT) in Ontario, or eligibility to obtain registration.
    • Other educational backgrounds considered based on experience.
  • Experience:
    • 2-4 years of Engineering experience.
    • Experience in power generation is considered an asset but is not required.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Industrial control and automation systems DCS, PLC, and SCADA technologies.
    • Instrumentation and process control.
    • Industrial communications and networking.
    • Operational data systems and historians.
    • Windows-based environments and virtualization.
    • Industrial cybersecurity fundamentals.

Working Conditions: Periodic travel (10-20%) to Ontario based facilities will be required. Limited travel throughout North America may be required.

Additional Details: This position will remain open until a suitable candidate is found. The pay range for this position is $120,000 to $131,000 As this is a safety sensitive position, clearance of a pre-employment drug & alcohol test is required, subject to applicable law. In order to be considered for this role you must be legally eligible to work in Canada. The successful candidate for this position will undergo an education verification, reference checks and criminal record check.
