Job summary

Hastings and Prince Edward District School Board (HPEDSB) seeks an Indigenous Student Support liaison to advocate for Indigenous learners and their families. The role focuses on programs, services, and mentorship to meet students' unique needs, including transitions from intermediate to secondary levels and post-secondary opportunities.

Reporting to the School Principal, the role emphasizes cultural identity, wellness and collaboration with families, the student success team, and community

Qualifications

• Knowledge of Indigenous teachings, cultures and local community connections.
• Two-year post-secondary education; Indigenous Studies diploma is an asset.
• Minimum two years' professional experience working with youth.
• Ability to build trusting, respectful relationships with Indigenous students.
• Understanding of Ontario secondary school diploma requirements an asset.
• Satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Background check.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain positive relationships with parents/guardians, community organizations, and other resource groups.
• Identify incoming students from feeder schools and, with the student success team, develop transition processes.
• Identify opportunities to increase student wellness, mental, physical, academic, referrals to resources.
• Support opportunities for students to connect with Indigenous cultural identity and leadership development.
• Build positive relationships with Indigenous students and support successful transitions.
