Job summary

HPEDSB invites applications for a Temporary Indigenous Student Success Coach. Reporting to the School Principal, the role focuses on mentorship, advocacy and developing programs to meet Indigenous students' needs, including transitions from intermediate to secondary, and pathways to post-secondary education or work opportunities.

The position emphasizes building relationships with families, community organizations and mentors, plus promoting Indigenous cultural identity and student leadership.

Qualifications

• Two-year post-secondary education in a related human science/service field.
• Diploma in Indigenous Studies is an asset.
• Experience working with Indigenous students and communities is preferred.
• Satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Background check.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain positive relationships with parents/guardians, community organizations, and other resource groups; connect students with mentors and programs.
• Identify incoming students from feeder schools; collaborate to design transition processes.
• Identify and support student wellness and connect families to appropriate resources.
• Support opportunities for Indigenous cultural identity, leadership development, and student voice.
• Assist in addressing barriers to successful transitions to secondary school, learning, engagement and wellbeing.
