Job summary

The Ottawa Catholic School Board is seeking an Indigenous Social Worker to support Indigenous students and families within the Special Education and Student Services and Learning and Parent Engagement teams. This full-time role will provide therapeutic support, counselling, and psychoeducation to address social-emotional needs impacting academic outcomes.

Applicants must hold a Master of Social Work, be a member of the OCSWSSW, and have extensive experience in trauma-informed,

Qualifications

• Master of Social Work degree required.
• Member of the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (OCSWSSW).
• 5 years of related and/or relevant experience.
• Direct Indigenous lived experience and connection to Indigenous communities.
• Familiarity with trauma-informed and culturally-responsive practices.

Responsibilities

• Provide counseling and intervention strategies addressing social, emotional, behavioural, and academic development, prioritizing Indigenous students.
• Perform risk assessments, develop safety plans, and provide crisis intervention.
• Provide consultation and intervention for students with mental health concerns.
• Screen referrals, conduct psychosocial assessments, and collaborate with families and staff on goals.
• Support parents/caregivers of students with social-emotional needs.
• Build capacity and conduct professional learning across the system.
• Participate in departmental multidisciplinary teams within SESS and Learning and Parent Engagement.
• Liaise with Indigenous community agencies and other board personnel.
• Support attendance and advise on managing complex student needs; promote Restorative Practices.
