Job summary

Aecon Group Inc. is seeking an Indigenous Liaison Coordinator to provide administration, field, and operational support within Ontario, focusing on Williams Treaty First Nations and Saugeen Ojibway Nation territories.

Reporting to the Indigenous Relations Senior Manager, you will coordinate community relations, assist in partnerships, and help ensure procurement and employment opportunities align with project commitments.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of 2-3 years' experience with Indigenous engagement, research, consulting or strong knowledge of Indigenous culture, governance systems and history.
  • Experience working with diverse populations.
  • Experience with general project communications and/or community engagement is considered an asset.
  • Excellent Computer skills including proficiency in MS Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.).
  • Mobility is essential; the position requires traveling between communities and project sites.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communications skills, both written and oral.
  • Ability to speak and write clearly in various settings; conveys messages effectively.
  • Demonstrates awareness of UNDRIP and the Truth and Reconciliation Commission's Calls to Action.

Responsibilities

  • Supporting implementation of Aecon’s Indigenous Relations Strategy within rights holder communities to our projects.
  • Assist in the development of community relations and partnership initiatives within the project.
  • Interface with functional groups to coordinate procurement, employment, and training opportunities for projects.
  • Act as a liaison between project team and the rights holder communities and other participants to support project commitments, committees and communications.
  • File management and recordkeeping.
  • Support implementation of Indigenous Participation Plans, including cultural awareness, capacity-building, and economic inclusion initiatives.
  • Provide proposal development and communications support tailored to rights holders, ensuring clarity and responsiveness.
  • Administrative oversight of Indigenous Participation Plans, including data collection, analysis and reporting.
  • Participate in relationship-building opportunities at conferences and community events.
  • Monitor and evaluate effectiveness of Indigenous engagement strategies, recommending improvements.
  • Collaborate with legal and compliance teams to meet regulatory and contractual obligations.
  • Contribute to internal training to build cultural competency.
  • Other duties as required.
