Role Overview

Our Indigenous Recruitment Specialist works with HR to grow and develop our legal services team to recruit and retain Indigenous talent. The ideal candidate has a passion for respecting Indigenous protocols, cultures, traditions, and practices through shared knowledge.

Ideally, you bring lived or learned experiences and connections from working with Indigenous communities and as our Indigenous Recruitment Specialist, you help recruit and retain staff in line with our priorities and values. You also develop internal training opportunities to build awareness of Indigenous culture so that we can ensure meaningful, positive, and effective working relationships with our clients and colleagues.

Key Responsibilities

  • Cultivating a network to support our search for Indigenous talent and share our developing career opportunities that align with the law firm’s goals and initiatives.
  • Managing and supporting effective full-cycle recruitment and selection projects for all positions. This includes drafting job descriptions, job postings, resume reviews, screening candidates, conducting interviews, completing references, and making hiring recommendations.
  • Building strong relationships with trust for candidates, students, Indigenous communities, and our team.
  • Planning and facilitating professional development presentations and orientation sessions for all staff.
  • Working on HR policies with mindfulness and Indigenous perspective for attracting and retaining Indigenous talent and ensuring Woodward maintains cultural safety and sensitivity within our workplace environment.
  • Maintaining an application tracking system to streamline recruitment activities and projects within our Microsoft office platform.
  • Reporting on measurable outcomes such as job posting performance and recruitment trends.

The minimum requirements for this position include :

  • Strong knowledge and respect for Indigenous cultural traditions, languages, ceremonies, and protocols involving Elders, traditional knowledge keeper, and Indigenous communities.
  • Work experience with Indigenous Nations, communities, businesses, organizations and / or student programs.
  • Lived and learned experience with sharing developing work opportunities for a variety of positions and sharing community events with others in your workplace.
  • 3 to 5 years’ work experience in a talent acquisition or recruitment positions with a successful outcome that will grow our network and increase our engagement opportunities and strengthen our relationships within Indigenous communities.
  • A willingness to collaborate and provide guidance to hiring managers and leadership on recruitment outcomes and training opportunities.
  • Completion of a business administration program, HR generalist designation, or certification as a CPHR, is considered an asset.

Why Woodward?

The salary range is $60,000 to $80,000 per year (to be negotiated with consideration for education and experience) with a generous range of benefits, including health and wellness, dental, RSP, vacation and professional development.

This is a full-time position. While most hours will be regular business hours, we anticipate some evenings and weekends (e.g., attending community events or career fairs).
