A deep understanding of Indigenous communities and trauma is essential. Ideal candidates will have a Social Work background, strong communication and relationship-building skills, and reliable transportation for travel within the region.

Qualifications

  • Indigenous communities, cultures, healing and language knowledge.
  • Historic trauma and colonization impacts understood.
  • Understanding of Child and Family Services, Justice and court systems, corrections Canada, housing and income supports.
  • Social Work degree or related experience with complex needs.
  • Ability to build relationships with communities and organizations.
  • Proficient computer skills including Microsoft 365 and App 360.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, organizational and time-management skills.
  • Professional representation of Native Counselling Services of Alberta.
  • Reliable vehicle with valid insurance for employment.
  • Current criminal record check and child intervention check.

Responsibilities

  • Explain court charges, court procedures, clients’ responsibilities, Legal Aid, Lawyers, Children’s Services investigation, court orders and circle procedures.
  • Support clients to prepare for and attend court.
  • Refer to other community supports and programs.
