Job summary

Vision Loss Rehabilitation Canada (VLRC) seeks a Specialist, Orientation & Mobility in Mississauga, ON. This full-time role involves instructing individuals with vision loss in orientation and mobility, developing service plans, and guiding travel skills to promote independence.

Ideal candidates have COMS certification, related education, and strong communication; travel to office, home and community settings is required. Competitive benefits and professional growth are offered.

Qualifications

• Graduate of the Instructor for Blind and Visually Impaired Program (Mohawk College) or Diploma in O&M and Vision Rehabilitation.
• ACVREP COMS certification is required.
• Undergraduate degree or equivalent.
• Good command of relevant computer applications.
• Excellent verbal and written communications skills.

Responsibilities

• Assess O&M needs and document goals for individuals with vision loss.
• Develop individualized orientation & mobility service plans with clients.
• Teach cane techniques, travel skills, and environmental analysis.
• Provide information on electronic travel aids and guide dog resources.
• Maintain case data and documentation per VLRC procedures.
• Support travel between office, home, and community settings.
