Job summary

New Frontiers School Board is seeking an Attendant for Handicapped Students to support students in daily school activities, assist with mobility and safety, and help with hygiene and nutrition as required. This on-call replacement role involves supervising during recess, assisting with transfers, and following the individualized education plan under the guidance of teachers and health staff.

Candidates hold a relevant diploma and have experience with children with special needs; bilingual

Qualifications

• Diploma of Vocational Studies in health care assistance or equivalent.
• Secondary V level diploma or equivalent recognized by authorities.
• Experience or ability demonstrating self-discipline and good human relations.
• Basic understanding of psychology concepts relevant to care.
• Bilingual in English and French.

Responsibilities

• Assist handicapped students with participation in school activities.
• Support mobility, safety, hygiene and well-being per individual plans.
• Supervise students during recess and meals, and accompany to the pool as needed.
• Assist with dressing, eating, diapering, and personal care when necessary.
• Record observations and inform staff and parents per plan; administer simple first aid if required.
