Job summary

Communitas in Abbotsford seeks a permanent casual-on-call role combining hands-on landscaping with supervising and training a work crew of people with disabilities. You’ll liaise with community members to schedule projects for building and property needs.

CommCrew, a social enterprise by Communitas, delivers landscape and property maintenance services in Abbotsford, including hedge trimming, leaf removal, exterior cleaning, and seasonal work.

Qualifications

• Experience landscaping and using hand tools and power tools.
• Proven experience with supported, customized, and self-employment for people with varying abilities.
• A philosophy of service aligned with Communitas' vision, mission and values.
• Ability to be motivational and positive while coaching work crew members.
• Ability to develop rapport with employers and job seekers.
• Excellent teamwork and independent work capability.
• Outgoing personality to represent Communitas positively.
• Excellent communication and mediation skills; strong interpersonal skills.
• Administrative and computer skills to complete reporting.
• Ability to manage emergencies calmly and effectively.
• Current Emergency First Aid with CPR-C certificate.
• Class 5 Driver's License

Responsibilities

• Provide specific job training around landscaping and property maintenance to work crew members.
• Identify accommodations needed for crew members before project start.
• Help crew develop transferable job skills and identify training needs.
• Ensure proper workplace behavior; report changes to Employment Specialist.
• Monitor work activities; follow schedules daily.
• Maintain documentation on training progress and outcomes.
• Collaborate with Communitas' facilities maintenance to identify projects.
• Identify hazards, assess risk, and minimize injuries.
• Meet with community organizations to find new contracts.
• Perform site visits and project quotes for prospective customers.
