Job summary

CANADIAN ROYALTIES INC. is seeking a Rock Mechanics Engineer to provide field support and instrumentation oversight for underground mine operations. You will work under the Chief Mining Engineer, ensuring health and safety while meeting departmental objectives.

The role requires a Bachelor’s in Mining or Geological Engineering, 2+ years of relevant experience, and proficiency with MS Office and Deswik. A valid driver's license and explosives handling permit (FMTM modules 1–7) are required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering or Geological Engineering.
  • Minimum 2 years of relevant experience.
  • Experience in magmatic nickel/copper deposits is preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of MS Office Suite and Deswik.
  • Hold a valid driver's license.
  • Hold a general explosives handling permit and FMTM modules (1–2–3–4–5 and 7).
  • Bilingualism (French/English) is an asset to facilitate communications.

Responsibilities

  • Apply and update the field control program.
  • Monitor instrumentation in the mines.
  • Conduct field control inspections in underground mines.
  • Manage communications with external rock mechanics consultants for projects.
  • Prepare and update field support specifications.
  • Design rehabilitation plans and extra support for excavation stability.
  • Maintain the field control register for each mine and ensure follow-up.
  • Perform other tasks as directed by the supervisor.

Job description

The normal work schedule is on a rotation of 4 weeks paid i.e., 2 weeks worked (77 hours per week, 7 days a week) followed by 2 weeks paid to rest.

Reporting to the Chief Mining Engineer, the Rock Mechanics Engineer will collaborate with various departments at the mining site to provide technical support in rock mechanics for underground mines operations. The candidate will be responsible for field support and instrumentation tasks. They will ensure that departmental objectives are met while promoting health and safety in their activities. The candidate will also be expected to perform the following duties:

  • Apply and update the field control program;
  • Monitor instrumentation in the mines;
  • Conduct field control inspections in underground mines;
  • Manage communications with external rock mechanics consultants for ongoing and upcoming projects;
  • Prepare and update field support specifications;
  • Design rehabilitation plans and additional support to ensure the stability of excavations;
  • Maintain the field control register for each mine in the Nunavik Nickel project and ensure its follow-up;
  • Perform any other tasks deemed necessary by the supervisor.
What we are looking for
  • Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering or Geological Engineering;
  • Have a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience;
  • Experience in the production of magmatic deposits of nickel and copper is preferred;
  • Strong knowledge of MS Office Suite and Deswik;
  • Hold a valid driver's license;
  • Hold a general explosives handling permit, as well as the FMTM modules (1-2-3-4-5 and 7);
  • Due to frequent communication with English-speaking team members, bilingualism (French/English) is an asset to facilitate and improve internal communications.
