Fort McMurray Catholic Schools seeks a full-time Educational Assistant to support High School Specialized Education Programs in the Fort McMurray area.

The role requires an Educational Assistant Certificate or Diploma, NVCI certification, and the ability to assist Language Arts and Social Studies for grades 10–12, with a focus on cognition, communication, physical and social development.

Qualifications

The Fort McMurray Catholic Schools is looking for a full-time Educational Assistant in High School Specialized Education Programs.

Qualifications:

• Educational Assistant Certificate or Diploma
• Able to fully understand and support Language Arts and Social Studies for grades 10-12
• Non Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) Certification

Requirements:

• Able to understand and support students academically in Social Studies, Language Arts, Math & Science student
• Support students' growth in the areas of cognition, communication, physical and social development
• Support and/or implement teacher directed programming
• Work collaborative under guidance of teacher, CST and other member of the multi-disciplinary team
• Implement behaviour management and educational strategies that facilitate student learning
• Communicate effectively with students using age appropriate positive reinforcements and/or school specific behaviour strategies
• Observe student behaviour with focus on achieving positive behavioural/educational outcomes and mitigate/prevent negative ones
• Provide high level of structure to facilitate completion of required learning outcomes
• Provide support in use of adaptive and learning technologies using a variety of devices and associated programs
• Successful implement the Positive Behaviour Plan(PBP), if required
• Manage student behaviour using strategies learned through NVCI certification (Specific requirement only)
• Able to work with students with Autism or complex medical needs
• Work with students in school or in the hospital to support their learning needs and objectives
• Competent in working with Google Suite of products and technology based learning tools

Employee is expected to work with behaviours related/associated with conduct, obsessive/compulsive, trauma and stress related, severe chronic depressive, feeding and/or eating disorders etc. Other behaviours related to ADHD, emotional/behavioural, learning and speech & language-related disabilities, etc may be encountered.
