Job description

We're looking for a Hydrogeologist to join our growing team in Fredericton, NB. This role is also open to our other New Brunswick offices in Moncton, Saint John, Bathurst or Grand Falls.

At GEMTEC, we offer something different. We’re a perfect sized employee-owned, 400-person multi-disciplinary consulting firm that is large enough to compete head-to-head with publicly traded engineering giants, but still small enough to maintain the culture and flexibility of a close-knit team.

Our size and hands-on management style let us move quickly, embrace new opportunities, and empower our people to shape their own careers—without getting lost in corporate bureaucracy.

A typical day on the job might look like:
  • Provide technical support to a wide variety of physical hydrogeology projects and prepare proposals and reports.
  • Design field investigations such as drilling, coring and test pitting logging; soil and bedrock description and characterization; monitoring well and groundwater/surface water instrumentation installation; single- and multi-well pumping tests; soil, groundwater, sediment and surface water sampling; infiltration rate testing; and private well monitoring.
  • Prepare technical proposals and reports, including hydrogeological characterization assessments; impact assessments, groundwater supply and source water protection studies and approvals; quarry, mine pit and construction dewatering assessments and permitting; water balance assessments; and groundwater and surface water interaction and monitoring programs.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with clients.
The good stuff you get:
  • Fair pay plus extra: competitive salary with year-end profit-sharing bonus.
  • Complete health & dental coverage including vision, paramedical services, and Teladoc.
  • Retirement planning made easier with a 5% employer match on your contributions.
  • Paid time off (vacation and sick days) plus Employee & Family Assistance Program when you need it.
  • Office year-end closure (paid time off between Christmas and the New Year).
Your background and what you bring:
  • Bachelor’s degree in earth science, environmental science or geological/geotechnical/civil engineering with an emphasis in water resources or hydrogeology.
  • Professional license in NB (i.e. P.Geo. or P.Eng.)
  • 5 to 10 years of relevant professional related experience (preferably in consulting).
  • Knowledge and understanding of provincial and federal regulatory frameworks for groundwater withdrawal/use, drinking water supply, contaminated sites assessment and management, and environmental assessment is required.
  • Familiarity with infrastructure, pit and quarry dewatering as well as exploration and development of community water supplies is required, with specific experience in the mining industry considered an asset.
  • Groundwater flow and transport modeling experience is considered an asset.
  • Valid NB driver’s license.

Thank you for taking the time to consider GEMTEC. Only candidates proceeding to the next phase of the application process will be contacted at this time. We encourage you to connect with us on LinkedIn, even if this opportunity isn’t for you, the next one might be!
