Job summary

Strathcona County is looking for a GIS Specialist II to turn complex geospatial data into practical solutions that support transportation planning and asset management. You will partner with Transportation Engineering and Operations to define needs, improve data governance, and deliver accessible GIS products.

You will lead data quality practices, develop GIS applications and dashboards, and mentor team members while staying current with emerging GIS technologies and corporate standards.

Qualifications

• Technical degree or diploma in GIS or related field with ≥5 years GIS experience.
• Extensive knowledge of geospatial information management principles and technologies.
• Experience with Esri GIS products and technologies.
• Ability to develop, automate and manage GIS products and services.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with stakeholders in mind.
• Excellent communication and collaboration across technical and non-technical teams.
• GIS certification such as GISP or Esri is considered an asset.

Responsibilities

• Manage and maintain transportation geospatial information with data assets and models.
• Establish data quality practices and governance for long-term sustainability.
• Partner with stakeholders to analyze workflows and define GIS solutions.
• Develop, maintain and improve GIS apps, maps, dashboards and reports.
• Perform complex spatial analysis and integrate geospatial data with related systems.
• Provide GIS best-practice guidance and support to users.
• Mentor staff and promote knowledge sharing across teams.
• Research GIS technologies and advise on improvements.
• Collaborate with Corporate GIS and IT to align with standards.
