Job description

HVAC MECHANIC

(CONTINUING)

School District No. 42 (SD42) serves approximately 17,000 students in Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows. With an annual budget of over $200M and more than 2,000 staff, the district provides K-12 education across 22 elementary schools, six secondary schools, and two alternative schools. It also offers certificate programs and lifelong learning opportunities through Ridge Meadows College and Continuing Education.

SD42 is seeking a qualified HVAC Mechanic to maintain the heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems within district facilities, ensuring safety and operational efficiency. This full-time, ongoing position is effective as soon as possible. Responsibilities include maintaining, installing, repairing, and testing HVAC systems, as well as calibrating pneumatic and electronic controls and thermostats. The role requires reading and interpreting plans, drawings, and specifications, and estimating work materials and time.

Qualifications

• Appropriate Trades Qualification (TQ) Certificate in Refrigeration, Plumbing, or Heating, with Controls Maintenance training, plus at least two years of post-TQ maintenance experience, including servicing DDC-controlled HVAC systems and instrumentation.
• Gas Fitter Class ‘B’ Contractor’s License.
• Proficiency with computer operations and relevant software applications.
• Physical capability, health, and coordination to perform job duties.
• Effective communication skills with staff, students, parents, contractors, and external agencies. Ability to work independently with initiative. Valid BC Driver’s License.

Work Schedule and Compensation

This position follows a 12-month schedule, working 40 hours per week during day shifts. The hourly rate is $40.76, plus an excellent benefits package.
