School District No. 43 (Coquitlam) invites applications for the HVAC Mechanic I position. This permanent full-time role (40 hours/week) is based in Coquitlam, with supervision by the Manager of Maintenance and the Trades Supervisor – Mechanical.

The candidate will install, service and repair heating/ventilation equipment, calibrate controls, balance air, and perform preventive maintenance. Requires BC HVAC/Refrigeration certificate, Class B gas fitting, 3+ years HVAC experience including DDC,

Qualifications

• BC Certificate of Trades Qualification in HVAC/Refrigeration is required.
• Class B gas fitting ticket required.
• Min 3 years HVAC maintenance experience, incl. 2 years with DDC systems.
• Recent related experience.
• Valid BC Class 5 driver's license.

Responsibilities

• Install, service, and repair heating and ventilation equipment.
• Repair and calibrate pneumatic and electronic controls and thermostats.
• Perform air balancing of building heating and ventilation systems.
• Perform preventive maintenance per program.
• Maintain supplies and materials for maintenance and installations.
• Read plans, drawings and specs of district buildings.
• Provide estimates and advice on HVAC projects.
• Supervise uncertified tradesmen when assigned.
• Operate power and manual tools related to the job.

School District No. 43 (Coquitlam) Invites applications for the position of: HVAC MECHANIC I. Permanent Full Time. 40 hours a week (Day Shift – 7:00 to 15:30). Coquitlam School District invites applications from individuals for the position of HVAC Mechanic I. As the third largest school district in the province, we are located within a 40-minute drive from downtown Vancouver. The school district has a population of 34,500 students with approximately 4400 teaching, administrative, managerial and support staff. The HVAC Mechanic I reports to the Manager of Maintenance and the Trades Supervisor – Mechanical and provides heating, ventilation and air conditioning tasks with a minimum of supervision.

Duties Include

• Installing, servicing, and repairing heating and ventilation equipment such as boilers, heating, and exhaust fans, circulating pumps, hot water tanks and natural gas and propane equipment.
• Repairing and calibrating pneumatic and electronic controls and thermostats.
• Performing air balancing of building heating and ventilating systems.
• Performing preventative maintenance by visual inspections as required and also periodically as established by a preventive maintenance program.
• Maintaining supplies and materials to complete necessary maintenance and installations.
• Reading and interpreting plans, drawings and specifications of district buildings and facilities.
• Providing estimates and advice on HVAC projects.
• Supervising uncertified tradesmen when they are assigned to assist.
• Operating power and manual tools related to the job.

Required Knowledge and Skills

• British Columbia Certificate of Trades Qualification in HVAC/Refrigeration
• Plus, Class B gas fitting ticket.
• Minimum of three (3) years proven experience in heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) system maintenance including a minimum of two years' experience using DDC systems
• Recent related experience
• Proven ability to work with minimal supervision.
• Excellent troubleshooting skills
• A valid BC class 5 driver's license
