Job summary

Qualifications

  • Grade 12 and a Certificate in Community Social Service are required.
  • 1 year of experience with marginalized populations or related fields.
  • Criminal records check with vulnerable sector screening required.
  • TB screening, immunization records, NVCI, First Aid and CPR certification required.

Responsibilities

  • Support daily operations and client care in the facility.
  • Assist clients with life skills, personal hygiene, meals, appointments and finances.
  • Administer medications per policy and provide reminders.
  • Document statistics, progress notes and daily logs.
  • Supervise activities and coordinate with volunteers as needed.
  • Maintain safety and cleanliness in the environment.

Program Assistant - (Casual)

Reports to: Program Manager

Compensation: (Grid 21) $29.76 - $31.64

Job Summary

The Program Assistant supports the daily operations of the facility and supports clients by providing a variety of day‑to‑day physical, emotional, and social supports, life skills assistance, information, resources, and demonstrations, in accordance with pre‑established care schedules. Works to ensure a safe, well‑maintained, and healthy environment.

Responsibilities

Client Services

  • Provides feedback and input regarding clients’ needs, performance, and progress
  • Assists clients with the development of life skills such as maintaining personal hygiene, housekeeping, meal planning and preparation, meeting financial obligations, making and keeping appointments, and interpersonal skills by demonstrating and modeling appropriate actions
  • Administers medication to clients and provides medication reminders, in accordance with established policy
  • Participates in and oversees various client‑focused social and recreational activities
  • Identifies available social, economic, recreational, and educational services and resources in the community that will meet clients’ needs and provides clients with related information
  • Assists clients with activities of daily living such as feeding, lifts and transfers, grooming, and toileting
  • Accompanies clients on outings such as appointments, shopping, and leisure activities
  • Completes and maintains related records and documentation such as statistics, progress reports, and daily logs
  • Receives client feedback, inquiries and complaints, and responds as required
  • Performs housekeeping duties such as sweeping and mopping floors, vacuuming, dusting, washing dishes, and laundry
  • Debriefs with incoming shifts to ensure detailed transfer of information (e.g., concerns)
  • Supports a safe, well‑maintained and healthy building environment
  • Conducts regular rounds of the facility as scheduled throughout shifts
  • Provides direction to volunteers as required
  • Performs other related duties as assigned
Qualifications
  • Grade 12
  • Certificate in Community Social Service
  • 1 year of experience working with marginalized populations, substance use services, mental health, corrections, etc., or equivalent
  • Satisfactory completion of a criminal records check with vulnerable sector screening is required
  • Satisfactory completion of Tuberculosis Screening form is required
  • Satisfactory completion of Employee Immunization Record form is required
  • Satisfactory completion of Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (NVCI)
  • First Aid 1 and current CPR certificate is required
Skills & Knowledge
  • Knowledge of Windows, Microsoft Word, Excel, and database management systems
  • Knowledge of and ability to operate standard office equipment, including telephone system, fax machine, photocopier, printer, and computerized building security monitoring system
