Job summary

Domtar is seeking a Human Resources Manager for Thunder Bay Sawmill to lead Labour Relations and HR operations at the Thunder Bay site. You will partner with Operations and Supervisory teams to drive recruitment, policy development, and workforce planning.

The ideal candidate has a Bachelor in HR, 5–7 years of experience, strong analytical and time-management skills, and proficiency in MS Office. This full-time role offers a competitive salary, comprehensive benefits, and a supportive, inclusive

  • Bachelor of Human Resources or related field is an asset.
  • 5–7 years of equivalent experience.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and adapt to change.
  • Strong analytical and decision-making skills under pressure.
  • Excellent project and time management with multiple priorities.
  • Proficient MS Office skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Understanding of federal and provincial employment laws.

Responsibilities

  • Provide support to Operations Management & Supervisory group on Labour Relations issues.
  • Coordinate the recruitment and selection process for Thunder Bay Sawmill.
  • Leadership in policy, procedure development and certification programs.
  • Manage manpower and scheduling issues for the Thunder Bay Sawmill.
  • Provide payroll support and information to operations.
  • Assist with training, development programs, and disability management/return-to-work efforts.

Your responsibilities:
  • Provide support to Operations Management & Supervisory group on Labour Relation issues.
  • Coordinate the recruitment and selection process for Thunder Bay Sawmill.
  • Leadership in related policy, procedure development and certification programs.
  • Responsible for management of all manpower and scheduling issues for the Thunder Bay Sawmill.
  • Provide support and information to operations for progressive work systems and Labor contract management.
  • Provide support and conduct research in order to assist in grievance resolution.
  • Communicate with and provide support to payroll.
  • Assist with the management of employee training, development programs, and provide support on all disability management and return to work programs.
Ideal profile:
  • Bachelor of Human Resources or related field an asset;
  • 5 to 7 years of equivalent experience.
  • Ability to work as part of a team, to communicate with all levels of the organization and to adapt quickly to change;
  • Solid analytical skills and the ability to quickly make sound decisions based on experience and judgment even when the information available is incomplete and/or you are under pressure;
  • Excellent project and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities;
  • Excellent computer skills, including proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint);
  • Demonstrated strong facilitation and issue resolution skills;
  • Understanding of federal and provincial employment laws;
  • The salary range for this position is CAD $105,000 to $125,000 per year. Salary will commensurate with education and experience.

  • Reporting to the Regional HR Manager Ontario Wood Products with indirect reporting to the Thunder Bay Sawmill Manager; you will be part of a dynamic team to which you will contribute vital skills.
